The Lady Tata Memorial Trust (LTMT), which was set up by Sir Dorabji Tata in memory of his wife, Lady Meherbai, has announced applications open for the Young Researcher Award 2023 for Indian scientists who are less than 40 years of age. The goal is to express appreciation for high standards of research by rewarding the researcher with a monthly remuneration as well as a contingency grant for further research work. About the Young Researcher Award
The awardee (only one person will be selected) will receive Rs. 25,000/- per month in addition to the regular salary from the host institute, for the duration of three years. This may be extended for a further two years after an appraisal by a committee of experts appointed by the Trust.
Furthermore, the awardee will get a contingency grant of Rs.10 lakhs per annum for the first and second years, Rs. 7 lakh p.a. for the third and fourth years, and Rs. 5 lakh p.a. for the fifth year. These amounts are for expenses on travel (both domestic and international), minor equipment requirements, consumables, manpower, and other expenses that are relevant to the implementation of the research project under the Award.
Important: It is mandatory to send all bills and receipts to the office of the Trust each year, after purchasing any items from the contingency grant that was given. It will be expected of the host institution, that is, where the applicant works, to make provision for the necessary infrastructure and any required relevant admin. support for pursuing the research that is conducted under this Award.
Young Researcher Award Eligibility Criteria
It is essential for the applicant to have an excellent track record in biological sciences or related areas (see academic qualification criteria below) and have great research potential, clearly committed to discovering innovative solutions to major problems that are related to human diseases. Specific eligibility requirements are as follows-
Nationality: Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply for this award.
Age: You must be below the age of 40 years as on 31st March 2023.
Academic Qualifications: You should have a Ph.D. degree in any Biological Science or a Master's degree in Medical Sciences, or an equivalent degree in a Biotechnology-related area.
Experience: You should have a minimum of four years of professional experience in the specific area after obtaining the academic qualification(s) as stated above.
Current work profile: You should be holding a regular position in any recognized university/institution or organization in India, as well as engaged in research and development. It would also be required to have publications arising from research done as an independent investigator in India.

The application should also be submitted in online mode on the official website of the Lady Tata Memorial Trust between 1st December and 15th January 2023.
Fee: You are required to pay the non-refundable processing fee of Rs.500/- that should be forwarded to the Lady Tata Memorial Trust. Then scan the transaction slip and submit it online. The details of the Bank account into which the fee has to be credited are provided on the official website. Announcement of Awardee: The name will be announced by the end of March/April 2023.
