Sir Dorabji Tata set up the Lady Tata Memorial Trust in April 1932 in memory of his wife, Lady Meherbai whose sad demise due to leukaemia led him to offer financial support through the Trust for research on leukaemia, and other diseases as well. This support includes scholarships, fellowships , and awards . The Trust is now inviting candidates of any nationality to apply for the International Award for Research in Leukaemia 2023-24 that will offer individual support specifically for research on Leukaemia.About the Award
The International Award for Research in Leukaemia is up to a maximum of £35,000. It is offered only for the duration of one year and an application for funds for a further year cannot be made. The application should be submitted by the individual who is conducting the research investigation, and not the PI of the host lab.
Additionally, the Lady Tata Memorial Trust may also select awardees for a Studentship an MPhil/PhD Lady Tata for two years, and this may be further renewed for one more year after an appraisal of the progress made during the preceding 18 months.
Eligibility requirements Since it is a global award, an individual of any nationality is welcome to apply. The Trust has made it clear that top priority will be to a research investigator who plans "to move to other centres with a view to establishing scientific collaboration between laboratories and/or progress towards scientific independency" and that the research studies should be related to leukaemogenic agents, the epidemiology, pathogenesis, immunology and genetic basis of leukaemia and related disorders for the academic year beginning 1st October.
While those individuals who are in research work more than six years post their Ph.D. degree qualification are not likely to get a green signal for funding, but yet decide to apply, then they must explain with strong reasons why they are eligible for the funding.Application procedure
You need to first register (if not already registered) and then apply online at the official website of the Lady Tata Memorial Trust . You can save your application multiple times prior to the closing date.
As part of the application, there is a section titled 'Justification for support' wherein you are required to elucidate with proper clarity as to how the funding by the Lady Tata Memorial Trust will make an impact on your research work. The goal of the research project and its potential outcomes should be consistent with the amount and duration of the funding. It is important to upload relevant documents, including references or letters of support, and other details such as factual preliminary data, but this should not exceed two sides of an A4-size paper.
