Overview
The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a highly reputed education institute with courses related to the niche of fashion, and not just related to garments in the general sense of the term, but also varied allied aspects, such as accessories, making creative leather products, etc. With campuses across the country, each having very good infrastructure, NIFT has a wide outreach. Meritorious students can avail of scholarships, and, through a collaboration with UBI, enables students to apply for an education loan. For admission to any of the NIFT programs, students who appear in the qualifying exam of the current academic year are also eligible to apply provided they fulfill all the requirements that are essential for starting the course (refer to the prospectus for full details). Ensure that you have a valid Aadhar card, as not only will your application be verified with it, but during the exam, your identity will also be verified from a physical Aadhar card.
NIFT undergraduate programs
NIFT offers seven Bachelor's programs (you need to check the official website of each individual NIFT campus to know which are offered there)-Eligibility requirements for B.Des. programs
Age Criteria: You should be less than 24 years as on 1st August of the year of admission. The upper age limit may be relaxed by five years for those applying in SC, ST, and PwD categories.
Educational Qualification: You should have successfully cleared any one of the following academic exams-
In the case of the B.F.Tech. program, you should fulfill the same eligibility criteria as above, but in the case of the educational criteria, you should have taken Physics and Maths as subjects at the various qualifying levels as mentioned for the B.Des. programs. A three-year or four-year diploma in any branch of engineering recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education is also accepted as eligibility for admission to the B.F.Tech. program.NIFT postgraduate programs

For the Master's programs, it is essential to have proper knowledge of the fundamentals in design as you will not acquire any of the basic skills at the postgraduate level that is expected to have been obtained prior to taking up the postgraduate course.
Age criteria: No age limit.
Educational Qualifications for M.Des. and M.F.M.: You should have an undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any recognized institute or university or an undergraduate Diploma acquired through a course of a minimum of three years duration from NIFT/NID.
Educational Qualification for M.F.Tech.: You should have passed B.F.Tech. from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) or acquired a B.E. or B.Tech. from any recognized institute or university.NIFT 2023-24 Application Procedure
Applications should be submitted only in online mode at the NIFT admissions website http://niftadmissions.in/
When selecting the centre for the entrance exam, you have to give three choices in order of preference, and the centre will be allotted on a first-come-first-served basis.
Entrance Test details
Admissions to NIFT programs, including both, undergraduate and postgraduate courses, is done through an entrance exam which is a LAN-based Computer Based Test (CBT). The Creative Ability Test (CAT) exam will be in Pen-Paper mode. You must have a valid Admit Card (to be downloaded from the official website) in order to get entry to the centre. It is advisable to reach the centre one hour prior to the start of the exam. No gadgets, including mobile phones, are permitted inside the exam centre.
Format of CBT for B.Des. programs: The test will include a Creative Ability Test (CAT) and a General Ability Test (GAT). If you are shortlisted on the basis of the scores in these, you will then appear for a Situation Test.
Format of CBT for B.F. Tech. program: The test is a General Ability Test (GAT).
Format of CBT for M.Des., M.F.M., and M.F. Tech. programs: The test will include Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT). If you are shortlisted on the basis of the scores in these, you will then appear for a Personal Interview (PI).
Note- The objective-type tests will have a negative marking for a wrong answer, which will be 25% of the full marks that have been assigned to the question.Important dates for NIFT admissions schedule
The last date for online registration for UG and PG Programs is 31st December 2022.
The last date for online registration with a late fee of Rs.5000/- (in addition to the applicable application fee) is the first week of January 2023 (tentative date).
Editing and updating details already given in the application form should be done up to the second week of January 2023 (tentative date).
The Admit Card for the entrance exam will be available for download on the NIFT website in the second week of January 2023.
CBT Entrance Test schedule-
The entrance test for all UG and PG programs will be conducted on the same date- 5th February 2023. Timings are as follows-
Display of question paper with the answer key to be accessed through log-in: Second week of February 2023 (tentative).
The result of the entrance exam will be put up on the website in March 2023 (tentative).
The Situation Test and Personal Interview are scheduled for April 2023 (tentative).
The last date for online registration for NRI/Foreign Nationals is 30th April 2023.
The final result will be declared in May 2023 (tentative).
The allocation of seats will be done in May/June 2023 onwards (tentative).Essential things to know
Refer to the prospectus for further steps in the selection process, once the result of the entrance test is declared and displayed on the official website. Relevant documents along with photocopies shall be required for admission after you qualify through the entrance exam. All copies of documents must be self-attested and uploaded on the website. The online verification of documents is purely provisional, and the physical verification of the documents will be done at the NIFT campus where you are seeking admission. During this verification process, the original certificates, except the medical certificate, will be checked and returned to you. The documents include certificates of the qualifying exam(s), proof of date of birth, a valid certificate as supporting proof if applying for a seat for a reserved category, the relevant document if applying for a State domicile seat, medical fitness certificate signed by a Registered Medical Practitioner in the prescribed format in original, etc. (refer to pages 68-69 of the official prospectus).
After allotment, the requisite fee has to be paid online once you receive an offer of allotment during the seat allocation process. The provisional admission will be confirmed only if the requisite fee payment is verified.
In case you decide to withdraw admission and request a refund, you have to do so in the prescribed proforma and submit it to the Campus Director. For Lateral Entry Admission to NIFT, refer to page 71 of the NIFT prospectus.
