About Institute

The National Institute of Immunology (NII) is an autonomous Institute of excellence under the Government of India. It was established in 1981 under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) for research in immunology. Candidates interested in pursuing research toward their Ph.D. in broad interdisciplinary research areas of Immunology, Infectious and Chronic Disease Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Chemical Biology, Structural Biology, and Computational Biology are invited to submit applications. Currently, the University has invited applications for admission to the Ph.D. programs for the academic year 2023- 2024.

Eligibility criteria

The candidate should have a master's degree in any branch of Science (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics) or.Tech., M.B.B.S., M.VSc., M.Pharm., Integrated M.Sc., or an equivalent qualification as per the norms of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.

The candidate should have at least 60% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Senior Secondary Certificate (10+2) and Bachelor's degree and 55% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Master's degree is essential for the general category.

5% relaxation would be given to candidates from the reserved categories (OBC (non-creamy layer; NCL), SC/ST, PwD, and EWS) in the aggregate scores in Senior Secondary, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees.

Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in the current academic year may also apply

How to Apply

The candidates who wish to join the Ph.D. program must visit the official website of the National Institute of immunology and read instructions carefully in the information brochure before applying. Candidates applying through JGEEBILS-2023 must also apply through the NII application portal, along with application fees.

For registration, candidates need to provide their full name, date of birth, email address, and mobile number. After registration, the candidate must log in using login credentials to fill out the online application form and upload the required documents. After filling out the application form, the candidate must pay the application fee online. Submit the form and take a printout for future reference. The application fee is non-refundable and will not be refunded under any circumstances.

The candidates will have to pay a non-refundable fee along with the application form. Details of the application fee are as follows:
For GEN/OBC(NCL)Candidates: Rs. 1200/-
For SC/ST/PwD/EWS candidates: Rs. 600/-

Selection Procedure

Admission of the candidates to the Ph.D. programs will be done based on their performance in the Computer-based Entrance Examination, NII-2023 to be conducted by the institute. The written test will be conducted online mode only. Apart from it, Joint Graduate Entrance Examination in Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS-2023) will also be conducted. Candidates will be short-listed for an interview based on their scores in either NII-2023 or JGEEBILS-2023.

Reservation of Seats

There will be a 15% reservation in seats for SC, 7.5% for ST, and 27% for non-creamy layer OBC candidates. Apart from this, 10% of seats are reserved for EWS (Economically Weaker Section) candidates and 5% for Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates. The candidates who wish to get the reservation category benefit must apply under this category and should produce a relevant category certificate at the time of the interview.
