Facilities
The Services Preparatory Institute (SPI), Aurangabad provides training for the UPSC (NDA) written entrance exam and also for Services Selection Board (SSB) interviews. The spacious campus has residential hostels for the cadets with three cadets in each of the comfortable rooms, and sports facilities for athletics, hockey, basketball, football, volleyball, boxing, etc. Specially demarcated zones are used for group task exercises. The library is well-stocked with academic textbooks, as well as biographies, and UPSC guides. Additional facilities include a gym to build a good physique and stamina, a large dining hall with a Mess to provide nutritious meals, a sick bay for basic medical aid etc. Academics and activities
For their formal education, the students are enrolled in a local institute in the city and have to pursue studies in the science stream. It is essential for a student to maintain a minimum of 60% in all the exams of SPI exams as well as in the college exams, otherwise, he may be instructed to leave SPI. Once regular college time is over, then the student gets the coaching for UPSC. Additionally, he will receive extra coaching to prepare for the Class 12th exam so as to do well enough to get admission to the Technical Entry Scheme (10 + 2) of the Indian Army/Indian Navy. In addition to the coaching, students participate in debates and other activities and are taken out on excursions for developing teambuilding skills. It is in Class 12 at SPI that the student can appear for the UPSC (NDA) entrance exam in August or April.
SPI Aurangabad Fees
There are very nominal fees for UPSC coaching at SPI Aurangabad towards a refundable security deposit, and a monthly Boarding fee (it was Rs.3000/- last year), with separate charges for general expenditures, such as for the kit, training visits etc. The college fees for Class 11 and Class 12 will also have to be paid as applicable. Only unmarried males who are domiciled in Maharashtra are allowed to apply for coaching at SPI. The date of birth should be as per the requirement for the year of admission. For the upcoming batch for 2023, the date of birth should be between 1st January 2007 and 31st December 2008, both days included. Educational Qualifications
You should be studying in Class 10 of the State Board or an equivalent Board with English, Physics, Chemistry (or General Science) and Maths subjects, and appear for the Class 10 exam in March/April/May 2023. You must secure a minimum of 60 % marks in the Class 10th exam, and a minimum of 60% marks in the Class 7th, 8th, and 9th exams as well, and be eligible for admission to Class XI in July 2023.Physical Fitness
You must be fit to join the Armed Forces as per the norms of UPSC for NDA/INA entry. The physical standards for admission to SPI are as follows-
Height & Weight: The height should be 157cms. and above, and the weight should be minimum 43kgs.
Chest measurements: Without expansion- minimum 74 cm, and with Expansion of minimum 5 cm on inhaling.
Vision: You should have good binocular vision and colour vision with no colour blindness at all. The eye power should be as per the UPSC notification for NDA/INA entry.
Note: If you are selected for SPI coaching, you are required to produce a medical fitness certificate that is signed by a qualified Registered Medical Practitioner at the time of joining. Additionally, a medical test will be conducted at SPI within the first couple of days of joining and only on being declared to be fit, you will continue at SPI. It is advisable to check the official website to be updated about the required physical standards.Services Preparatory Institute Written Exam Format The exam is for three hours with Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) in two sections, with the questions in English medium and having a total of 150 marks. The sections are- (i) Mathematics (75 marks) and (ii) General Ability Test (GAT) (75 marks). A correct answer will be awarded one mark while a wrong answer will get a deduction of 0.5 marks.
GAT will have questions on (i) English, (ii) Science, (iii) Social Science/Social Studies, (iv) General Knowledge (v) Current Affairs, and (vi) Logical Reasoning. For the English part of this section, the questions will be related to grammar, comprehension, synonyms, antonyms, etc. All questions will be based on the current syllabus of the State Board or the CBSE for Class 8 to Class 10. Students should also have basic knowledge of current affairs. A few questions that will test mental aptitude may also be included.
Test centers will be in various cities, information about which, including dates and addresses, will be updated on the official SPI website later, along with the results. Those who successfully clear the written exam will then appear for an interview at Pune and/or Aurangabad. The interview will also be in English and candidates have to answer in English only. The date and time will be informed later to the students.
The interview is to gauge your general intelligence and awareness of current affairs, and there will a personality test as well. All questions put to the candidate during the interview should be answered in English. At the time of the interview, you must bring the original copies of all the annual exam results of Classes 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th (if already passed), along with certificates of other achievements, if any. On completion of all interviews, the final merit list will be displayed on the SPI website. Application procedure
The application for admission should be submitted online at the official website of Services Preparatory Institute after registration with a valid phone number. You will get the password via SMS on that number. Log in with the user ID and password, and pay the non-refundable application fee of Rs.450/- with a debit card or a credit card or via Net banking only.
