Established in 1981, St. John's English School & Junior College, Chennai is a CBSE-affiliated higher secondary school under the management of the Saint John's Educational Trust. Science and Commerce streams are offered for Class XI.

The campus has a library, labs, and plenty of facilities for sports and games, such as athletics, football, cricket, throwball, table tennis, Kho-Kho, chess, etc. Students can join the school's National Cadet Corps (NCC) Air Force Wing. There are also some unique clubs that students can enroll in, such as the Fine Arts, the Readers' Club, the Nature Club, the Philately Club, etc.

Eligibility Requirements

For admission to Pre-K.G., L.KG., and U.K.G., children who have siblings already studying in the school will be given preference, but admission will also depend on the sibling's academic performance and conduct.

Parents should ensure that the child meets the following eligibility criteria-
Age criteria for admission to St. John's School and Jr. College: (i) For admission to pre-KG, the child should have completed 2 years of age on or before 30th June. (ii) For admission to L.K.G. the child should have completed 3 years of age on or before 30th June. (iii) For admission to U.K.G. the child should have completed 4 years of age on or before 30th June.

Medical Fitness: Parents need to submit a certificate from a registered paediatrician /practising paediatrician certifying the medical fitness of their ward. The age criterion for other classes will be as proportionately appropriate.

Residence proximity to the school: The residential address should preferably be in nearby areas, namely, such as in Besant Nagar where the school is located, in Thiruvanmiyur, in Adyar, etc. Since preference will be given to children in the nearby localities, address proof must be submitted at the time of applying. Furthermore, since there are limited school buses for the students, those who do not avail of school bus facilities may be given preference.

How to apply for admission to St. John's English School and Jr. College

Parents can visit the school's official website for the application form or obtain it from the school office. The application fee is Rs. 1500/-, and this can be paid online through Net banking (NEFT/RTGS). Once the application form is downloaded and completed, it should be submitted within three days. Ensure that all details are correctly filled in.

Documents required to be uploaded when submitting the application form are-

Selection Procedure

While details that have been provided in the application form will be duly scrutinized and considered for admission to the appropriate standard, admission to St. John's School and Jr. College will also depend on a number of factors, such as the number of seats available, academic performance in the previous school, etc.

In the case of those seeking admission to the other classes from Class I to VI, and Class XI, admission will be based on the student's performance of the previous academic year. For Class XI admissions, the marks/Grades obtained in the Class X School level and Board Exam will be considered. An entrance test may be scheduled as per the decision of the school management.

What to do after selection

Post-application, once the children have been selected for admission to St. John's School and Jr. College based on the selection formalities, a merit list will be prepared and those who top the list will get provisional admission. Accordingly, an intimation will be sent through an admission letter to the parents by post/mail. In case a child is not selected for admission, the parents will receive a letter of regret.

Upon receiving the admission letter, the required documents should be submitted before the stipulated time, including, if applicable, the previous school's Transfer Certificate showing the class studied in order to be eligible to be promoted to the next higher class at St. John's School and Jr. College. Parents should note that if their child is ineligible for promotion to the next class, then the provisional admission will be cancelled and the child will not be permitted to get admission to the immediate lower class as well. All fees should also be paid on or before the stipulated date as mentioned in the admission letter.
