Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kochi, Kerala is a highly reputed university Accredited by NAAC with an 'A' Grade, with most academic programs approved by UGC/AICTE (some courses are not yet approved by AICTE). CUSAT has announced admissions open for all its UG, PG, Diploma, and other programs for the next academic session starting in 2023. Students keen to pursue a course at CUSAT will be required to appear for a Common Entrance Test, namely, CUSAT CAT-2023. This is a Computer Based Test (CBT) that will be conducted at various centres in India. CAT is not required for M.Tech. and MBA programs. International students, including foreign students, Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are welcome to apply, too, and will be required to fulfill all the eligibility criteria specified for them as per the official notification.

Other than the main campus, CUSAT also has campuses in Kuttanadu, and one known as the Lakeside campus. The campus addresses are provided at the end of this article. The admission notification applies to the academic programs offered at all three campuses, and the Ph.D. programs offered in the approved Departments/Schools/Centres of CUSAT as also at various research institutions recognized by CUSAT in the State of Kerala.



Cochin University of Science and Technology Programs

You are advised to check the official CUSAT CAT-2023 prospectus to know the specific educational qualifications, including subject criteria for the qualifying exam, for each course.

CUSAT programs after Class 12 (10+2)

B.Tech. Programs: These are regular courses, each of eight semesters, in the fields Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Safety and Fire Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture and Ship Building, Polymer Science & Engineering, and Instrumentation and Control Engineering.

5-year MSc Integrated Programs: A Master's in Science in the fields of Photonics, Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence & Data Science), Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Maths, and Physics.

5-year Law Programs: BBA LL.B (H), and B.Com LL.B (H).

3-year B.Voc. Progam: This is a Degree program in Business Process and Data Analytics.

CUSAT programs after 3-year Engineering Diploma

B.Tech. Programs: You can get admission through Lateral Entry to the third semester in the fields of Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Safety and Fire Engineering, Polymer Science & Engineering, and Instrumentation and Control Engineering.

Part-time B.Tech. Programs: There are two of these, each of seven semesters- Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. [Important note: Currently, these two part-time courses are not approved by AICTE.]

CUSAT programs after Graduate Degrees

(i) M.Sc. courses in the subjects of Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, Computer Science with specialization in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science with specialization in Data Science, Forensic Science, Electronic Science, Hydrochemistry, Oceanography, Marine Geology, Marine Geophysics, Meteorology, Environmental Science and Technology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Marine Biology, Industrial Fisheries, and Econometrics and Financial Technology.
(ii) M.FSc. Seafood Safety and Trade.
(iii) M. Voc. Programs in the subjects of Software Application Development, and in Consultancy Management.
(iv) Master of Computer Applications (MCA).
(v) M. A. programs in the subjects of Applied Economics, and Hindi Language and Literature.
(vi) MBA (both full-time, and part-time).
(vii) 3-year LL. B. (this is an academic program w.e.f. 2020 admission onwards).
(viii) LLM (two-year program). [note that this will be offered only subject to Syndicate approval.]
(ix) 2-year LL.M (IPR). [note that this will be offered only subject to Syndicate approval.]
(x) LLM (IP) Ph.D. (this is a 5-year Integrated program).

CUSAT M.Tech. programs

A Master's in Technology is offered by CUSAT in Computer Science and Engineering with specialization in (a) Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and in (b) Software Engineering. Other M.Tech. programs are offered in-
(i) Computer-Aided Structural Analysis and Design.
(ii) Electronics and Communication Engineering with specialization in (a) VLSI and Embedded Systems, (b) Microwave and Radar Engineering, and (c) Robotics & Intelligent Systems.

General information

Those seeking admission to courses other than Ph.D. programs and Diploma programs are required to register and apply for CAT-2023 in online mode only. For admission to MBA programs, too, you are required to register for CUSAT CAT-2023 and complete the application process. However, you must have a valid KMAT/CMAT/CAT (IIM) score. You can register even if you currently do not have a valid score, but must enter it before the closing date of applications.

For admission to the B.Tech. Marine Engineering course at KMSME in CUSAT, you are required to register for CAT 2023, select the course, and also complete the online step for the center selection. You will be required to appear for the Common Entrance Test (CET) that is conducted by the Indian Maritime University (IMU). Subsequently, admission to CUSAT's B.Tech. Marine Engineering course will be based on the rank that you get in the IMU-CET.

For admission to all the M.Tech. courses, with a valid GATE score in the respective subject, will be given preference. If there are then available seats, then without a GATE score will be considered for admission on the basis of their performance in the Department Admission Test (DAT) to be conducted by the Departments concerned.

CUSAT CAT-2023 Application Procedure

Registrations and applications for CUSAT programs will be accepted only in online mode on the official CUSAT CAT-2023 admissions portal. You need to upload a recent passport-size photo (not larger than 500kb, with dimensions of the photo 150px X 180px) and also a scanned image of your signature (the file size should not be greater than 100kb, with dimensions of the signature 130px X 57px, and image format can be .png or .jpg or .jpeg).

Application fee: The application fee for CUSAT CAT-2023 varies as per the categories for seats/applicants, such as for State merit, All-India quota, international candidates, etc. and is not refundable. Applicants should check the official prospectus to know the fee as per the category under which they are applying. The fee can be made online with a Credit Card or a Debit Card or through Net banking.

The list of test centres will be displayed once the online payment of the application fee is made, and you can select any one test centre. You can use the preview feature to check that all the information has been correctly filled in before you submit the application. Take a printout of the confirmation page and save it for future reference and communications.

It is not required to send any documents to the university at the time of application. However, you must produce all the original certificates from 10th Standard onwards along with the Transfer Certificate and Conduct Certificate from the institution last studied at the time of admission/counselling.

Important notes For admissions to Ph.D. programs and for admission to all Post-Doctoral Fellowship programs, Diploma courses, and Certificate courses, you must not apply through the CUSAT admissions portal. Instead, check the specific Department's application process at https://cusat.ac.in/academics.

Secondly, the entire fee for the first Semester of the program to which you have got admission must be paid at the time of admission. The fee for subsequent semesters, exam fees, fees for issuance of certificates, and any other fee should be paid separately as and when notified by the Departments/Schools concerned.



CUSAT CAT-2023 Key Dates

Online registration for CAT-2023 for all programs other than for M.Tech., Ph.D., and Diploma programs begins on 27th January 2023 and closes on 26th February 2023.
Online registrations for CAT-2023 that are done for all programs other than for M.Tech., Ph.D., and Diploma programs after the closing date will be accepted with a late fee up to 6th March 2023.
Online payment of the application fee can be done from 27th January 2023 up to 7th March 2023.
Online registration to M.Tech. programs begins on 27th January 2023 and closes on 8th April 2023.
Online registrations that are done for M.Tech. programs after the closing date will be accepted with a fine up to 17th April 2023.
Online registration for seats reserved for international students opens on 27th January 2023 and closes on 17th April 2023.
Issuance and receipt of applications for Ph.D., Diploma Programs, etc from the Department/Schools concerned begin on 27th January 2023 and closes on 17th April 2023.
Online registration for MBA programs begins on 27th January 2023 and closes on 26th February 2023.
Online registrations that are done to MBA programs after the closing date will be accepted with a fine up to 6th March 2023.
Online payment of the application fee for MBA programs can be done from 27th January 2023 to 7th March 2023.
Admit Cards can be downloaded from 18th April 2023 up to 1st May 2023.
