2023-24 RTE Mumbai Maharashtra Schools Online Admissions Dates and Procedure

Looking for RTE seats for admission to schools in Maharashtra? This article provides complete information on the online registration and application procedure for admission to schools in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and other cities and towns in Maharashtra for 2023-24. Details of the age criterion and other eligibility requirements, as well as the exact dates for online appplications, will be updated soon.

The Office of the Director of Education, Govt. of Maharashtra had earlier this month issued a directive to all eligible schools to register their institution for the Right to Education (RTE) admission. Accordingly, schools across the State have to complete the registration process latest by 3rd February 2023, mentioning the number of seats available for admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) quota for the academic year 2023-24. In the meanwhile, you can get some early intimation of the eligibility requirements for a child to get admission under the 25% RTE quota.

Who can apply for an RTE quota school seat?

Only a family with a low income is permitted to apply for admission for their child for the 25% quota. These families benefit as they can get admission to a recognized school without having to pay any school fees. The schools are across various Boards, such as CBSE, ICSE, SSC, etc. Of course, the final admission depends on the lottery system and it is not necessarily the case that all those who apply are guaranteed school admission.

It is essential that once the official schedule is released, parents should first and foremost read the user manual that is available for free download at the official RTE Maharashtra website. There are some useful FAQs that are also available. A separate section provides the complete list of schools in each District of the State of Maharashtra, with the Class-wise number of RTE seats that are available and the age criteria.

Eligibility requirements

Firstly, only those children who are from a disadvantaged group are eligible to apply. This includes Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), including Vimukta Jati Nomadic Tribes (VJNT), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and Special Backward Class (SBC), and those suffering from 40% or more disability. Secondly, the family's annual income should be less than Rs.1 lakh. Thirdly, parents need to ensure that the child meets the age criterion for the particular class to which admission is sought.

RTE Maharashtra admissions Application Procedure

Parents are required to first register online at the Maharashtra RTE Admissions 2023-24 website.

The first step in the registration process is to give the basic details, such as the name of the child, date of birth, the District in which the current residence is located, the contact mobile number, and the email ID. The date of birth should especially be absolutely accurate, as it cannot be changed later. On successful registration, a username and a password will be sent to the mobile number that was entered.
Next, parents can log in through 'Existing User Login' with the given username and password, and complete the online application form for Maharashtra RTE admissions 2023-24.

Parents can select the school to which they wish to get admission for their child but must select only those schools that are within a distance of 1km and up to a maximum of 3kms distance from their home (where they are residing currently). Accordingly, during the seat allocation, priority will be initially given to a school within 1 km, and then further, up to 3kms. In the possibility of no nearby school being allotted, parents will have to arrange to drop off and pick up their ward from the school or pay the required school bus fee if the school is providing a bus facility.

List of Documents for RTE Maharashtra Admissions

While filling up the online application form, parents will not be required to upload any document, but it is best to keep these ready so that the information can be filled in without errors. So keep ready the Aadhar Card and address proof, such as the electricity bill or ration card, driving licence, etc.

The Aadhar Card is also considered valid for address proof. The address proof should basically be one that has your current residential address on it, and this should be the address that parents have to enter in the online application form because later, during the verification process of documents, the original will have to be produced and it must match what you mentioned in the form.

Procedure after RTE seat allotment

Once the lottery takes place, parents can check the official website under the section 'Application Wise Details' to know the school where the child has got a seat. Then they are required to log in and download the Admit Card, take a printout of it, and go to the allotted school with the required documents. These will be the address proof, the child's birth certificate, the child's recent photo, and other required certificates. Note that the originals of all documents should be taken for the verification process of documents, with at least one set of photocopies. Ensure that required certificates, such as the caste certificate, disability certificate, etc have been issued by the competent official as stated in the instructions.

For EWS category children, in addition to the other age and address proofs and photo, it is also mandatory to submit an income certificate issued by the Revenue Officer who is not below the rank of a Tahsildar, and a Salary slip/Employer's certificate of the previous two years which indicates that the family income is less than Rs.1 lakh. There are also specific documents to be submitted for an orphan, the child of a widow, and the child of a divorced. This can be checked from the official website.

The Maharashtra RTE Admissions Schedule will be updated soon once the official notification is released with the key dates for registration and application. Parents can bookmark this page to get quick updates.
