Brief profile of IISc Bangalore

Established in 1909, initially with just two Departments, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore has grown exponentially, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. More importantly, its continued thrust on research has played a major role in projects related to electronic technology, engineering, sciences, hypersonics, brain research, etc and highly eminent scientists and other professionals are on the alumni rolls.

It is interesting to note that students are awarded scholarships/Fellowships at the start itself, on joining IISc, Bangalore for some of the programs, namely, Ph.D., Bachelor of Science (Research), M.Tech (Research), M.Tech./M.Des., and Integrated Ph.D. programs. Meritorious students may also receive scholarships that are awarded by prestigious companies like Microsoft, Infosys, etc and by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DietY), Govt. of India. Another wonderful feature is the opportunity for students of other colleges and universities to visit the campus, including specific departments, with a prior intimation of at least two weeks through their official authorities. Students can apply summer internship programs as well.

The IISc Bangalore campus has excellent infrastructure, with not only labs, libraries, hostels, canteens, sports and recreational facilities, and research centres, but thoughtful facilities like a taxi-hire service and a crèche for babies.
