What is RTE


The right to Education act was implemented in 2009 to provide free and compulsory education for every student up to 14 years in India. Section 12(1)(c) instructs all private schools to provide free admission to the students of the lower category. According to this provision, the students of SC, ST, OBC and BPL get free admission to private schools. The reimbursement of the fees is done by the govt. According to the act, every private school must vacant 25% of seats in the lowest class. The lower class may be Nursery, LKG, HKG or I. At least 25% of admission would be done by the Government through the online lottery system.

Eligibility for RTE admission


If you belong to a Schedule caste (SC), scheduled tribe (ST), or other backward categories (OBC) then you are eligible to get admission through RTE. If you have a BPL (below the poverty line) ration card and the name of the children are included in the Ration card then you would be able to get admission through RTE. The age of the child must be 3 to 5 years.

Documents required for RTE admission


The following documents are needed to seek admission through RTE:

  1. Caste certificate for identification of category

  2. Adhaar card of the student

  3. Ration card in case of BPL

  4. Samagra ID (SSSMID)

  5. Birth Certificate

Procedure to apply


To apply for RTE admission you have to visit a KIYOSK centre with all the documents. The complete procedure is as below:

  • Visit the KIYOSK centre with all the documents.

  • The agent will fill out the online registration form and application form for your child. You need a mobile phone since SMS will be provided on that mobile number.

  • You have to select three schools near your ward.

  • After filling online form you have to visit Jan Shiksha Kendra for the verification of documents.

  • After that, the admission process would be done through the online system. If your child is selected you will get an SMS on a mobile number.

  • once your child is selected in the online lottery system, you will receive a letter.

  • Take a print of that letter and brings it to the principal of the school.

Important dates of RTE admission



  1. Apply online on the portal and correction in the application form– 13 March to 23 March

  2. Verification of application and document at Jan Shiksha Kendra – 15 March to 25 March

  3. Selection of school through an online lottery system – 28 March

  4. Reporting to selected school and complete for the admission process – 31 March to 10 April

The process of the online lottery has been completed. The parent will receive an SMS if their child is selected. After getting an SMS you have to download the allotment form and contact the respective school principal. You have to submit all the documents to the school principal. The school principal will take a picture of the student and complete the admission process through the mobile app.
