About NEST 2023 Exam

NEST 2023 is a computer-based exam that will be conducted at 122 centers in cities and towns across India (refer to the official notification to know the locations), and you can select five centres in order of preference.

You will be assigned one of the two sessions, namely either the 9 a.m. to 12.30 session, or the 2.30 p.m. to 6 p.m. session. Those appearing for the exam in the Divyang category will be given an extra 20 minutes. It is mandatory to bring to the exam center the Admit Card and a school photo Identity Card or any other valid photo ID that is issued by a Government agency.

The test will have Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) in four sections and are designed to check comprehension of the subject as well as analytical ability. Each section has a total of 50 marks with subject-specific questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. For certain questions, negative marks will be awarded to an incorrect answer, and some questions may have one or more correct answers for which you need to mark all the correct answers.

Tip: Unlike earlier, when the scores of all four subjects were considered for preparing the NISER merit list, this year, the merit list of NEST 2023 will be drawn up using the best three qualifying scores out of four sections, and the section with the worst score will not be considered. Hence, it is advisable to attempt all sections as it will increase your chances of a better total score.

The syllabus for NEST-2023 is based on the NCERT/CBSE science syllabus of Classes 11 and 12 (refer- https://www.nestexam.in/docs/23/NEST2023-Syllabus.pdf). You can check out previous years' exam papers and try out the mock test that will be available on the official website so as to understand how to answer the MCQs online.
