Sports Authority of India applications open for Diploma in Sports Coaching admissions 2023-2024
Looking for Government Sports Coaching Diploma programs in India? The Sports Authority of India conducts a Diploma program in Sports Coaching, for which international applications are also accepted. This article provides complete information on the course fees, eligibility requirements, number of seats for each discipline, the online registration and application process, etc.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI), which is under the aegis of the Department of Sports, Govt. of India, has announced admissions open for the Diploma in Sports Coaching program for the academic year 2023-24 that will be conducted at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NSNIS) in Patiala, which is SAI's academic wing. Both national and international sportspersons are welcome to apply.
NSIS conducts professional academic courses in sports coaching, sports sciences, and other related fields, organizes refresher courses to enhance the competence of coaches, and conducts national coaching camps for elite sportspersons to prepare them for international competitions. Note that boarding and lodging facilities for those enrolling for the Diploma course will be subject to the availability of facilities at the discretion of the competent authority.

Age Criteria: You should be within the age limit of 21- 45 years as of the last date of application. Upper age relaxation of up to 5 years will be given to-
(1) Those who have participated in the Olympic Games/Senior World Championship/Asian Games/Senior Asian Championship/Commonwealth Games/Senior Commonwealth Championship;
(2) Those who belong to SC/ST/OBC category; and
(3) Those in service and who are Ex-service candidates from the Armed Forces of India.
Sports Achievements: Direct admission to the course will be given to eminent sportspersons under Category A (I) who are having a 10+2 educational qualification and who have represented India in the Olympics, or have participated in a Senior World Championship, or who have won any medal in the Asian Games/Commonwealth Games. These candidates do not have to appear for the online admission test, and for the online interview.
Direct admission to the course will be given to international sportspersons under Category A (II) who are having a 10+2 educational qualification and who have participated in either the Olympics or a Senior World Championship or the Asian Games/Senior Asian Championship or the Commonwealth Games/Senior Commonwealth Championship or the Youth Olympics.
Category B admissions will be given to those who are Graduates and have the following sporting achievements-
(1) Participated in a major internationally recognized competition or
(2) Participated in these- (i) A recognized Senior National Championship; (ii) Khelo India University Games; (iii) All-India Inter-University games or
(3) Have two-time participation in any of these- (i) a recognized Junior/Youth National Championship; (ii) Inter-Services/Inter-Railways Championships/All India Police Games; (iii) Khelo India Youth/Khelo India School Games or
(4) Successfully completed SAI, NS NIS six-weeks Certificate Course in Sports Coaching in their respective sports coaching discipline only.
Candidates from the Northeast can apply in Category C. They should be Graduates, and have one of these Sporting Achievements- (1) Won a medal in the North East Games or (2) Have been a two-time participant in the North East Games or (3) Fulfill any of the criteria as mentioned for Category B candidates.
Note- In the case of educational qualifications, candidates those who are awaiting the final year results of graduation level degree courses or are awaiting the result of 10+2 under the 'Pursuing Status' are only considered, on or before 14th May 2023.How to apply
Applications should be submitted in online mode only at the NSNIS Diploma in Sports Coaching admission portal. The application fee of Rs.1500/- should be paid in online mode only.Important dates
Online applications open on 10th March 2023.
Online applications close on 13th April 2023 (the earlier closing date was 7th April 2023).
Candidates can make corrections if required only on 14th April 2023.
The tentative date of the written test is 14th May 2023.
Bridge Course Class: This will be conducted for the candidates selected under Category A (I) by the first week of June 2023 (tentatively).Further processes after application
Based on the details submitted in the application, eligible candidates (other than those who are exempt from it as mentioned in the eligibility requirements earlier) will be called to appear for an online admission test. The test will be held in 29 cities in India, and also in Nepal and Bangladesh.
The Diploma in Sports Coaching online admission test will have Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). The sections are-
Specialized Sports Theory Test (25 marks) - this includes questions related to technical rules, specifics of the playing field, equipment, competition format, etc.
General Knowledge Theory Test (10 marks) - this includes questions related to awareness of sports at the national and international level, rural sports, sports promotion schemes, etc.
Logical Reasoning and Coaching Aptitude (10 marks) - this includes questions to gauge your analytical and problem-solving aptitude and covers numerical reasoning, etc.
Language and Communication (10 marks) – this includes questions based on Std. 10 English, such as synonyms and antonyms, etc.
Basic Computer Knowledge (5 marks) – this is to check your understanding of basic concepts of computers, and knowledge of MS Office and MS Excel.
Merit List: The merit list will be prepared based on marks scored in the test, as well as marks for the educational qualifications (10 marks), and sporting achievements (20 marks).
In the case of educational qualifications, 10 marks will be awarded for M.Phil./Ph.D. in Physical Education/Sports, 5 marks for M.P.Ed./MBA in Sports Management, and 3 marks for B.P.Ed./Postgraduate in any subject other than Physical Education.

Those who are shortlisted provisionally through the entrance exam and the virtual interview then have to qualify for the physical fitness test and medical fitness test.

Successful candidates then must produce all original certificates/credentials and other relevant documents, including the medical certificate, to the academic centre for verification at the time of joining the course. The Provisional Merit list (Sports specific) of the candidates will be displayed on the NSNIS website https://nsnis.org/.
