Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts Chennai Diploma in Dance, Music, Visual Art Admissions 2023

Being under Kalakshetra Foundation, Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts, Chennai, Tamilnadu has issued admission notification for four years Diploma course in Bharatanatyam, Carnatic Music and Visual Art. This article informs about the course details, fees, eligibility criteria, application procedure etc.

Kalakshetra Foundation is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and, under the aegis of the Foundation, Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts, Chennai has now announced admission notification for 4 years diploma course in following disciplines:

  1. Bharatnatyam: During these 4 years, students will learn theory, music, and language of Bharatnatyam to be established themselves as a perfect performer. in addition to various basic steps named 'adavus', they will enhance their movements, geometric precision, and grace through 'Yajur Veda' which is taught specifically in Kalakshetra. While Bharatnatyam is the main subject of this course, Carnatic Vocal, and Mridangam will remain as allied subjects and other subjects will be Dance Theory, Dance History and Heritage, Nattuvangam, Kathakali, Yoga, Kalari, and Fitness in this course.
  2. Carnatic Music - Vocal/Instrumental (Veena/ Violin/ Mridangam/ Flute): Students have to choose any of Vocal, Veena, Violin, Mridangam and Flute as their main subject and the rest will be their allied subjects. Additionally, Music Theory & Heritage will be taught as other subjects
  3. Visual Arts: As the main subjects of the course, students will learn drawing and painting under both academic studies and Indian art. Sculpture will also be taught as the main subject. While Ceramics, Print Making, Computers and Photography will be allied subjects of the course; Art History will remain as other subjects which include Indian Art History, Old World Art History, Western Art History, and Contemporary (Indian & Western Art History).




Eligibility criteria

  • Candidates willing to apply for the programs offered by the college should have completed the 12th standard. Those who are now studying in 12th standard but about to finish their 12th standard in April 2023 are also welcome to apply for ongoing admissions.
  • Age of the applicants of all the said programs should not be more than 25 years as on 1st July 2023.

Eligible and interested candidates have to register their application through online mode only following the below points.

  2. Click on "Full Time Diploma Application" available under College >> Online Application
  3. Fill up the form and submit
Note: Application forms should be filled up in capital letters only. Verify your all details including your mobile number and email address before submitting applications. Check your mail inbox along with the spam box regularly after submission of the online application to check for any updates.

The online portal will remain active till 31st May 2023.

Application fee

Applicants should pay Rs. 500/- as an application fee.

Course fee

The course fee for the academic year 2023-24 will be known during the submission of the online application. However, to get an idea, candidates may check the course fee for the Academic Year 2022-23. The course fee for any program as described was Rs. 30,000/- for 1st year and Rs. 26,800/- for each of the rest years.
