Online admissions open for NIOS education school studies and vocational programs 2023-24

This article provides complete information on the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) admission procedure for classes III, IV, VIII, secondary and higher secondary classes, and for vocational courses. Details of all the NIOS programs have been provided.
With the appropriate tagline 'Education at your doorstep;, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) offers education to all age groups with no upper age limit. You can learn at your own pace and pursue your dream to complete your education if you were forced by some circumstance to leave it mid-way. Anyone can complete their school academic studies or take up a vocational course through what is considered to be the largest Open Schooling system in the world. An autonomous institution under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, NIOS courses are recognized both nationally and internationally. Admissions are ongoing since 1st April for the 2023-24 academic sessions. Children age 6 years to 14 years can apply for the open basic program, and adults above 14 years too can apply.

There is a vast choice of subject combinations with the option to study an academic subject alongside a vocational subject, and the freedom to learn multiple languages and subjects. You do not require deep pockets to acquire the education, as the fee for every NIOS program is low, including relevant study material that is delivered through postal mail with no additional fee. You get access to audio and video programs as well as live interactive classes. You can thus get online support through swayam.gov.in/NIOS, attend lectures on Mukta Vidya Vani, the Web Radio through the NIOS website, and tune in to the e-Vidya 10 (for Class 10 students) or e-Vidya 12 (for Class 12 students). Support is provided via email and a Toll-free number, and study centres. Personal Contact Programs (PCPs) are also scheduled at specific centres.
What's more, with two public exams providing a flexible exam system, and the provision of On Demand Exams (ODE), you can appear for the exam when you are ready for it. Evaluation is done through Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs). There is a provision, too, for a transfer of credit up to two subjects passed from other Boards, and a credit accumulation facility for five years.
Who can apply for a NIOS program? To be eligible for the Secondary Course (Class 10), you must pass Class VIII and have a valid proof of attaining 14 years of age as of 31st January of the current year. If you have already studied at the secondary level, then also you can apply for admission to NIOS either to complete the course or to improve your performance. In the case of admission to the Senior Secondary Course (Class 12), you must pass the Secondary course from a recognized Board with a minimum age of 15 years as of 31st January of the current year.
Important document requirement: You must submit a document supporting the date of birth. This should be the date of birth certificate issued by any Govt.-authorized body, such as the Municipal Corporation, the Village Panchayat, etc that is authorized by the Registrar, Birth, and Death, Govt. of India. An Aadhaar Card issued by a Govt. agency is also a valid proof of date of birth. In the case of orphans, street children, etc., a medical certificate in respect of age issued by a Government Hospital will be accepted as valid proof of date of birth.Fee Structure for 2023-24 NIOS Courses
The fee structure for online admission of Stream-1, for Dual Enrolment/Part Admission/TOC (Stream -1), and for Streams - 2, 3 and 4 is shown in the Table below-

In the case of Transfer of Credit (TOC), the fee for all streams for Senior and Senior Secondary is Rs. 180/- per subject.
In the case of a change of subject/additional subject for all streams, the fee is Rs. 720/- per subject for secondary courses, and the same amount of Rs. 720/- per subject for senior secondary courses as well. The course fee should be paid online with a credit card or debit card or through Net Banking. In case you are applying for admission through a Common Services Centre (CSC), then the fee should be paid via the Electronic Wallet of the centre.

Note: The books/study material will be sent by NIOS within 15 working days after receipt of the payment to NIOS. Do not pay a fee to the postman/postal department. You can track the package with the Tracking ID of your study material.
List of NIOS programs
Open Basic Programs There are three programs as per levels, namely Level-A (equivalent to Class 3), Level-B (equivalent to Class 5), and Level-C (equivalent to Class 8). As indicated at the start of this article, the minimum age is 6 years. There is no upper age limit.
Secondary and Senior Secondary Programs At the Secondary level there are 38 subjects (earlier it was 37), including 19 languages. At the Senior Secondary level, there are 43 subjects (earlier it was 42), including 13 languages.
Vocational Programs There are currently 103 courses in the broad areas of-

The admission process to NIOS programs for 2023-24 is online at the NIOS official website. Before you start applying, go through the instructions provided on the site. There is an online application fee of Rs. 50/-. Ensure that you select your choice of subjects and a Study Center during the online process.
Also, keep scanned images of all required documents ready for uploading. These include a recent passport-size color photo, your signature (preferably in black ink), valid Identity and address proof, proof of date of birth, and academic mark sheets, as also other relevant documents as applicable.
The types of documents that can be submitted are as follows-
ID proof document: Aadhar Card, Passport, Ration Card, or any other valid government Identity Card.
Address proof document: Ration Card or Aadhar Card or electricity bill or water bill or the Voter ID or Indian passport. You can also submit a statement of a current operation Bank Account. In case you are currently staying in a temporary rental house, then you need to submit a copy of proof of your permanent address along with the present Rent Agreement. For a student who is a minor, a parent's passport is acceptable.
Date of birth proof document: Aadhaar Card with the date of birth printed on it in the date/month/year format, the birth certificate, etc.
Academic documents: Class 8th mark sheet for admission to a NIOS Secondary Course and Class 10th mark sheet for admission to a Senior Secondary Course. Also required is the original scanned copy of the failed mark sheet that has been issued by the Parent Board of the School Education in case the registration is for Stream- 2, 3, or 4. Caste certificates: A self-attested true copy of the social category/caste certificate if you are applying through SC/ST/OBC categories.
Other documents(if applicable): Ex-serviceman Certificate, and Disability Certificate.
After successful verification of the required documents/photo uploaded during registration, you will get a confirmation of it on your email address and mobile number along with the Enrolment Number. You can download and take a printout of your Identity Card (ID Card) from your dashboard after login once the admission is confirmed and the Enrolment Number is generated.
