Academic Eligibility

The applicants should have completed the HSE or its equivalent from a recognized board with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as major subjects. The minimum percentage in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry clubbed together in plus 2 examination is 45% for the general category and 40% for other categories (backward class including backward class Muslim, MBC, DNC, SC, SCA, and ST). The same eligibility criteria are applicable to the candidates from the vocational stream.

Age Limit

As per the TNEA rules, the upper age limit is 25 years, and the lower age limit has been 18 years with age relaxation for reserved categories.

In addition to the above eligibility criteria, there have been various disability norms for candidates with visual/hearing impairment, locomotor disability, acid-attack victims, and multiple disabilities who are seeking admission to engineering courses. For further details, applicants can visit the TNEA website.

Mode of Preparation of Merit List

The candidates will be selected on the basis of the marks secured in the relevant subjects of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. The cut-off marks will be calculated to 200 (100 in Mathematics and 100 in Physics and Chemistry put together) in their qualifying examination. As per the GO issued by the Tamil Nadu Acts No.3 of 2007, the process of the Inter-Se Merit list has been followed during the TNEA. According to the rule, the marks secured by the applicants in the relevant subjects in the qualifying examination held by various national boards (CBSE/ISCE) will be equalized to the marks scored by the State Board of Tamil Nadu. For example, If the highest mark obtained by the Tamil Nadu State Board student and the highest mark scored by the other Board student in Mathematics is 100 and 90 respectively both marks will be weighed as equal to 100. In case, a student from the other board scores 60 marks in Mathematics with the first mark in Mathematics on the same board is 90 then 60 marks will be equal to 66.66% as calculated by the following method: 60/90 multiplied by 100. The other boards will be requested to submit the highest marks in the subjects. After this Inter-Se-Merit method, the qualified applicants of other boards will be clubbed into the common merit list. If more than one scores the same marks in the common merit list, priority will be given in the order of preference to the percentage of marks in Mathematics, marks in Physics, marks in optional subject, total marks in the 12th board exam, total marks in 10th board exam, elderly candidate (date of birth), and Random Number assigned (preference of higher value). The rank list will be published on the website.
