Govt. of Maharashtra Study Abroad Scholarships for PG, Ph.D. courses in Marine Sciences

The Mangrove and Marine Biodiversity Conservation Foundation of Maharashtra (Mangrove Foundation), which is under the aegis of the Revenue and Forest Dept., Govt. of Maharashtra invites applications from meritorious students of the State for scholarships to higher education in foreign universities in the subject of Mangroves and Marine Biodiversity for the year 2023-24.

About the scholarships

There are a total of 25 scholarships, with 15 for students who are pursuing a Post Graduate Degree, and 10 for students who are pursuing a Ph.D. Degree. The scholarships are open for all categories of students, with 30% reserved for female students. It is not clear what is the scholarship amount and what it covers.

Eligibility requirements

You, as well as your parents/guardians, should be a citizen of India and a resident of the State of Maharashtra. Other criteria are as follows-
Age criterion as of 1st July 2023: For those pursuing a Post Graduate program abroad, the maximum age limit is 35 years. For those pursuing a Ph.D. program abroad, the maximum age limit is 40 years.

Admission requirement: You should have secured admission to any foreign educational institution/University for the academic year 2023-24, and the institution or university must be one that is ranked in the top 200 of the Times Higher Education ranking system or in the top 150 of the Quacquarelli Symonds ranking system. If the institution or university does not have a rank in either of these ranking systems, then you cannot apply for the scholarship.

Note that as part of the application process, you will be required to submit the unconditional offer letter from the institution/university and a Prospectus of the institution/university so there is no point in applying if you do not have these documents.



Income: Your annual income, if you are working, and the annual income of your parents/family combined with all other sources of income, should not have exceeded Rs. 20 lakhs for the last financial year of 2022-23.

Application procedure

You have to download the application form from https://mangroves.maharashtra.gov.in/

The completed application form in the prescribed form (other formats and handwritten applications will be rejected) along with all other requirements must be submitted for further verification by 30th June 2023 latest by 6.15 p.m. or earlier only by email to mfnforeignscholarship@gmail.com

In the subject line of the email, you need to mention the name of the degree for which the Scholarship is applied, like this- Application for (the name of the Degree).

Everything, including the application form, must be put in a single PDF only, and not each in separate PDF files. You are also required to put in a recent photo, signature, and necessary documents, without which the application will not be considered. Documents required (note the order in which these should be put in the single PDF as well) are given below. First in the PDF should be the application and then-
  1. Domicile Certificate

  3. Aadhar Card

  4. PAN Card

  5. Mark sheets, starting from the highest educational qualification and including those of Class 12, and Class 10

  6. An unconditional offer letter from the University

  7. Prospectus of the University

  8. Income Certificate (this should be issued by a Tehsildar or a Nayab Tehsildar)

  9. Income Tax Return and Form No.16 if applicable

  10. Student Record Release consent form

  11. No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the current employer, if applicable

  12. Two separate Surety bonds from two different witnesses

  13. Medical Certificate

  14. Notarized Affidavit: It is mandatory to submit on a non-judicial stamp paper a Notarized Affidavit with the following-
    • Self-declaration of non-participation in similar scholarship programs by State or Central Govt. schemes or any other Govt. Departments

    • Declaration stating that a similar thesis has not been submitted to any other university in India

    • A recovery clause in case of defaulting and in case of an excess fund with the student is to be returned

    • Affidavit of non-participation of family members in the same scholarship
