The program is open to ITI-qualified candidates/Freshers (Rigger) candidates in various Trades. Both male and female candidates are welcome to apply. There are one-year and two-year training programs at the Dockyard Apprentice School, Mumbai in various designated Trades as mentioned below, with a total of 281 seats.
The Apprenticeship Training Trades of 1-year programs and the number of seats are-
Note- The eligible ITI Trades are the same as for the Apprenticeship Training Trades. In the case of Pattern Maker, Carpenter ITI Trade is acceptable; in the case of Shipwright, Carpenter ITI Trade is the eligibility; and in the case of Tailor, Sewing Technology/Dress Making ITI Trade is the eligibility.
The Apprenticeship Training Trades of 2-year programs and the number of seats are-Eligibility requirements
Age criteria: You should have completed 14 years and should be below 21 years of age, that is, born between 21st November 2022 and 21st November 2009 (both dates inclusive). There is a relaxation for the upper age limit if you are applying in the SC/ST categories and for the wards of Defence employees or Naval civilians.
Educational qualifications: You should have scored at least 50% marks in the Class 10 exam. Additionally, you should have scored at least 65% marks in aggregate in the ITI exam (a provisional National Trade Certificate is acceptable) in the relevant ITI Trade. The relevant ITI/Trade test should have been passed from any institute that is recognized by the National/State Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) and the qualification should be had as on the closing date of applications.
In the case of enrollment for Rigger as a Fresher candidate, the minimum educational qualification is Std 8 pass only, without ITI; and for Forger & Heat Treater trade, the minimum educational qualification is Std 8 pass only, without ITI.
Physical standards: You should fulfill the general physical fitness standards as per the norms of the Ministry of Defence (MoD), and- (i) Height: 150 cms.; (ii) Weight: not less than 45 kgs.; (iii) Chest expansion: not less than 5cms.; (iv) Eye sight: 6/6 to 6/9 (6/9 corrected with glasses).
Prior Training: If you have already undergone or are currently enrolled in any Apprenticeship under the Apprentice Act – 1961 in any Government or Public Sector or Private industrial organization, then you cannot apply for this Apprenticeship program at Dockyard Apprentice School, Mumbai.Dockyard Apprentice School Apprenticeship Training program Application procedure
To enroll for the Apprenticeship Training program you must register online at the Apprenticeship India Govt. portal with a valid email ID. It is important to check this email ID regularly for further communications. The portal for registration will be opened on 4th June 2023. Selection process
If you meet the eligibility conditions, then you will be called for a written exam that is scheduled to be held in August 2023. This is a 2-hour exam with 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) related to General Knowledge, General Science, and Maths. The exam center will be in Mumbai only, and the date, time, and venue will be informed to candidates through their call letters that will be sent only to the registered email ID.
