Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram has released the admission notification for its undergraduate programs, including its dual degree program that combines the undergraduate program with the postgraduate one. Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) card holders are also welcome to apply. Scholarships and tuition fee waivers are offered to eligible candidates.

IIST UG Programs

B. Tech in Aerospace Engineering: This is a 4- year course with 75 seats.

B. Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (Avionics): This is a 4-year course with 75 seats.

Dual Degree (B.Tech. in Engineering Physics + Master of Science/M.Tech.: This is a 5-year course with 24 seats. This can be pursued in any of the following, with students allotted the postgraduate streams at the end of the sixth semester based on their preference as well as their academic performance up to the 6th semester-

Note- There are seats reserved for SC, ST and OBC students, students of the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Jammu & Kashmir students under the Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS), Persons with Disabilities (PDs), and for women.

IIST B.Tech. Course Fees

The fees for the UG and Dual Degree courses 2023-2024 and new admissions are shown in the Table below-

Important note about fees: Once you are allotted a seat during the admission process, you need to pay the fee for the first semester online. For the subsequent semesters, you have to pay the fee at the beginning of each semester within the stipulated dates. The amount to be paid at the time of admission is Rs.20700/-, and the rest of the amount should be paid while joining the institute.



IIST B.Tech. Eligibility requirements

You need to be a citizen of India to be eligible for admission to the IIST programs. Citizenship: Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply for admission to IIST.

Other criteria are as follows-
Age: Your date of birth should be on or after 1st October 1998 if you are applying through the General, EWS, and OBC-NCL categories. In the case of applications through the SC/ST and PD categories, the date of birth should be on or after 1st October 1993. Note that the date of birth should be exactly the same s to be seen in the certificate of high school/first Board/or its equivalent, and in case the certificate does not have DOB, then, you are required to submit an authenticated document from a competent authority indicating the DOB at the time of accepting the seat for admission to the IIST course for which you had applied.

Educational qualification and marks: You should have scored a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in Class XII (or equivalent exam – refer to the official brochure to know the list of equivalent qualifying exams) Board exam. In the case of SC, ST, and PD candidates, the aggregate marks should be at least 65%. The marks scored in these 5 subjects will be considered for calculating the aggregate marks- Physics, Chemistry, Maths, one language (if the candidate has taken more than one language, then the language with the higher marks will be considered), and any subject other than these four (the subject with the highest marks will be considered).

JEE (Advanced) 2023 Exam: For the JEE (Advanced)-2023 exam, the minimum marks requirement is as follows-
  1. For General category candidates: At least 14% marks in aggregate and at least 3% marks in each of these- Physics, Chemistry, and Maths.

  2. For EWS, and OBC-NCL category candidates: At least 12.6% marks in aggregate and at least 2.7% marks in each of these- Physics, Chemistry, and Maths.

  3. For SC, ST, and PD category candidates: At least 7% marks in aggregate and at least 1.5% marks in each of these- Physics, Chemistry, and Maths.

How to apply for IIST B.Tech. courses

Ensure that you go through the full information brochure before you begin the online application procedure. Here's an important heads-up as well- You should upload a copy of the same photo that you have used for the JEE (Advanced)-2023 registration. You must also select the choice of the branch as per your interest in order of preference for the UG and Dual Degree Programs at the time of registration. It is not mandatory to fill in all three choices, but if you do not fill any, then your registration will not be considered to be complete.

You have to register and submit your application online at the IIST admissions portal .

The IIST UG programs registration fee to be paid online is as follows-
  • Rs.600/- for Male candidates in General/ EWS/ OBC-NCL categories

  • Rs.300/- for Female candidates in General/ EWS/ OBC-NCL categories

  • Rs.300/- for all SC/ ST/ PD candidates

The following documents should be scanned and uploaded during the online application process-
  1. The Class 10 certificate if the date of birth is mentioned in it or the birth certificate. Learn how to apply for a duplicate birth certificate if you do not have one.

  2. The Mark sheets of Class 12 (or an equivalent exam) for those who appeared for this exam in 2022 and/or 2023.

  3. The relevant reserved category certificate, if applicable, namely, EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PD certificate. Important- Do not submit false certificates

  4. The Transfer Certificate from the institute last attended.

Once the verification of documents is done, a provisional Admit Card will be generated and you will get an intimation of this. Then you can download it from the same official admission portal. This Admit Card is mandatory to be produced at the time of joining the program at IIST. It is also mandatory to submit a Medical exam report in the prescribed format before the date intimated by IIST during the admission (the form will be available during admission).



2023 Admission schedule of IIST UG programs

The JEE Advanced Result will be announced 18th June 2023. You can then start the online registration and select the branch preference, which begins on 18th June 2023, 10 a.m. onwards.

The other Key Dates are-
The online payment of the registration fee should be done on or before 28th June 2023.
The online registration will close on 28th June 2023, 11.59 p.m.
The IIST Admission Rank List will be published on 29th June 2023, at 5 p.m.
The Branch preference can be modified up to 29th June 2023, 11.59 p.m.
The Seat Allotment/Acceptance rounds and re-validation of the registration of candidates on the waiting list are tentatively scheduled to begin from 3rd July 2023 up to 27th July 2023.
Joining IIST: 7th August 2023 (reporting time is 10 a.m.).

Spot admissions schedule-
In case of vacancies, there will be a notification issued for Spot Admissions on 28th July 2023 at 2 p.m.
In the case of Spot Admissions, registration will be from 29th July 2023, 9 a.m. up to 2nd August 2023, 11.59 p.m.
Further Spot Admissions in case of vacancies will be done online from 3rd August 2023 up to 7th August 2023.

Final closing of Admissions: 7th August 2023.
The induction program will be held from 7th to 11th August 2023.
IIST classes will begin on 16th August 2023.
