Looking for the notification for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) June 2023? This article provides complete information on the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS)-conducted Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) June 2023 session. Details of the FMGE for Indian citizens, NRIs, OCIs, and non-OCI foreign citizens, the exam date, exam paper format, exam fee, eligibility criteria, and how to register and apply, are provided in this article.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) will be conducting the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) June 2023 next month, for which applications are open till 20th June 2023. Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), and Non-OCI Foreign Citizens can also register and apply for the exam. Once you qualify through the FMGE, then you are not eligible to take the FMGE again.

It is important to know at the outset that you should check out the 2002 Screening Test Regulations, and all its amendments, the regulations on Graduate Medical Education, and the Eligibility Certificate regulations before you apply for the FMGE and be very clear that you are definitely eligible in every respect to register as a medical practitioner in India. If you do not fulfill all the required criteria, then do not apply for the FMGE.



NBEMS FMGE eligibility criteria

Nationality: You must be a citizen of India or an Overseas Citizen of India.

Medical Qualification: You must have a primary medical qualification, the result of which should have been declared on or before 30th April 2023. This qualification should be confirmed by the Indian Embassy concerned, to be a recognized qualification for enrolment as a medical practitioner in the country in which the institution awarding the said qualification is situated. Also, it is mandatory to submit valid proof to indicate that the result of the final exam for such a primary medical qualification was declared on or before 30th April 2023.

Note- The primary medical qualification can be an M.B.B.S. or any equivalent degree.

In case you are holding an Undergraduate medical qualification from Australia or Canada or New Zealand or the UK or the USA and have been awarded a Post Graduate medical qualification in any of these countries, as well as been recognized for enrolment as a medical practitioner in that country, then you do not need to appear for the screening test. In the case of acquiring a primary medical qualification from Pakistan, you will need to get security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Govt of India, and the result of the FMGE will be declared only on receipt of the MHA security clearance.

Eligibility certificate: You should have obtained an Eligibility Certificate from the National Medical Commission (earlier the Medical Council of India). However, this is not required in the case of Indian citizens or Overseas Citizens of India who have acquired the medical qualifications from a foreign medical institution or have obtained admission to a foreign medical institution before 15th March 2002.



FMGE exam fee

The exam fee for all candidates is Rs. 7080/- (this includes GST). This fee will not be refunded under any circumstances, and in case you do not appear for the exam in July, then you cannot carry forward the fee to the next-scheduled FMGE. It has to be paid online with a credit card or a debit card or any of the other modes that will be available. Only after successful payment of the fee will you get registered for the screening test and the test city will be confirmed as well. After successfully completing the online payment, you should download the application PDF post-payment and keep it for reference for future communications.

FMGE Test format

The FMGE screening test is a computer-based test with just one question paper of two parts with 150 MCQs (multiple choice questions) in each part. The paper is in English only and must be taken in a single day. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers. The time allotted is shown in the Table below-

You need to score a minimum of 150 marks out of 300 in the exam to pass the exam. There is no provision available for making requests for re-evaluation or for re-totalling.

Ensure that you have the Admit Card with your photo affixed to it, and a valid Govt.-issued photo ID proof (Voter ID/PAN Card/Aadhar Card/Passport/Driving License). It is advisable to read the information bulletin to know the test day procedures and the documents that you must take with you to the test centre.

NBEMS FMGE Application procedure

Go through the information bulletin before you start the online application process.

You must submit your application online at NBEMS exam portal after first registering your name to receive the user ID and password, which will be sent on the registered email address and/or on the registered mobile number. Then you will be able to log in with that user ID and password to fill in the online application form. It should be noted that the name, date of birth, nationality, mobile phone number, and email ID should be entered correctly at the outset because you will not be able to change it at any time after registration.

You are required to select your test centre from the list of 47 centres, and upload clear scanned images of your photo, signature, thumb impression, and prescribed documents. For instructions to upload a photo and signature refer- https://nbe.edu.in/IB/Image%20Upload%20Instructions.pdf

The documents required to be uploaded, in addition to the photo, signature, and thumb impression, are-
  1. ID proofs: Voter ID, passport, PAN Card, and Driving Licence. Note that in case any of these have not been issued to you, then you should select 'No'. Furthermore, all these ID proofs should be taken to the test centre on the day of the exam. In the case of an OCI candidate, the OCI Card number should be kept ready, along with the passport of the country of citizenship. In the case of a Nepalese citizen, the National ID will be required, and a scanned image of an ID proof that has been issued by the Govt. of India.

  2. M.B.B.S. Degree/provisional Pass Certificate (this should be uploaded in PDF format in English only, with max. size of 400Kb ).

  3. Eligibility Certificate issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC), if applicable (maximum size of 400 Kb size in PDF format) or the score card of NEET-UG if you have joined the primary medical qualification on/after May 2018

  4. Valid passport issued by the Govt. of India as proof of citizenship (maximum size of 400 Kb in PDF format).

Key dates

The closing date to submit the online application for FMGE is 20th June 2023, up to 11:55 p.m.

Other dates of the application schedule are-
Information/documents can be edited from 23rd June to 26th June 2023 (the name, nationality, email ID, mobile number, and the test city cannot be edited).
Editing access to rectify deficient/incorrect Images of photo, signature, and thumb impression will be permitted from 7th July 2023 to 10th July 2023 (this is the final edit window, with no extension in the last date).
You can rectify deficiencies related to documents that are uploaded in the application, namely (i) Primary Medical Qualification Certificate (PMQC); (ii) Apostille/Attestation of PMQC by Indian embassy concerned; (iii) Eligibility Certificate or Admission Letter; and (iv) Proof of Citizenship at the Online Deficient Document Submission Portal (http://exam.natboard.edu.in/ fmge.php) only up to 13th July 2023, 11.55 p.m.
A final opportunity to rectify deficiencies related to documents uploaded in the application will be permitted (for the candidates in the list that will be published on the NBEMS website) from 18th July, 11 a.m. up to 20th July 2023, 11.55 p.m.
A demo test will be available to practice so that you can be prepared for the Computer Based Test format from 20th July 2023 onwards (tentative date).

After the fully completed submission of the application-
The FMGE Admit Card will be issued on 25th July 2023.
The FMGE date is 30th July 2023.
The FMGE exam result will be declared by 30th August 2023.
