How to join Military Nursing Service in the Indian Armed Forces with BSc (Nursing) Course

The Office of the Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) invites applications from female candidates for admission to the 4-year B.Sc. (Nursing) Course that will start this year at various Colleges of Nursing of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) [You can refer to the list of colleges at the end of this article.]
The course is strictly only for female candidates who have qualified through NEET (UG)-2023, which is the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test that is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) and is mandatory for seeking admission to medical undergraduate courses in India.
Eligibility requirements
Only citizens of India can apply for the B.Sc. (Nursing) course, and, as mentioned earlier, only female candidates can apply, who are unmarried/divorced/legally separated. Widows without any encumbrances can also apply.
Additional criteria are as follows-
Date of birth: You should be born between 1st October 1998 and 30th September 2006 (both days inclusive).
Educational Qualifications: You should have passed the Senior Secondary Exam (10+2) or any equivalent exam (it should be 12-year schooling) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany & Zoology), and English with a minimum of 50 % aggregate marks. You should have passed the exam on the first attempt itself and you must have been a regular student from a Statutory/Recognized Board/University/Examining Body.
Medical Fitness: It is mandatory to be medically fit as per the prevalent norms prescribed by the Medical Board. You will be required to undergo a medical exam by the Special Medical Board (SMB) at Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt. If you fail to be present in person for it, then you will be declared unfit in absentia and will not be permitted to apply for the course.
Physical Standards: You should have a minimum height of 152 cm. If you are from Hill regions and North Eastern States, the acceptable minimum height is 147cm. In case you are less than 18 years of age at the time of the exam, there will be a provision to allow for growth of 02 cm.Application procedure
Only after the NEET-UG 2023 results are declared, then registration for applications to the B.Sc. Nursing course will begin at the Indian Army official website.
Keep ready scanned copies of all the required documents that must be uploaded in the prescribed size and format, such as your photo, mark sheets, the caste certificate if applicable, etc. You can upload the NCC 'C' certificate as well, if applicable.
At any time before the final submission, you can use the edit menu to correct mistakes in the information that you have filled in, but no editing will be available once you have clicked on the submit button.
The application processing fee of Rs 200/- has to be made online. You should note down the bank reference number (this is called the DU number) that will be automatically generated after making the online payment. SC/ST candidates do not have to pay this fee but must upload a valid document as proof of belonging to the SC/ST category.
After final submission, it is advisable to take a printout of the completed application for future reference. You will also receive a provisional registration number called the Reference Number at your registered email id, which you will require to mention in all communications.
Selection process
Based on the scores of NEET (UG) 2023, a list of shortlisted candidates will be prepared, and their reference numbers will be displayed at the website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. If you are one of them, then you must appear for (1) the Test of General Intelligence and General English (ToGIGE), (2) a Psychological Assessment, (3) an Interview and (4) a Medical exam at the Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt. (BHDC) The Admit Card for this will be available for download at the official website. It is important that you appear for the screening process on the date assigned to you as a change in date will not be permitted.
At the time of the screening process in Delhi, you must produce the originals of all documents that will be listed in the Admit Card. If the educational institution where you studied has the originals, and you have not been able to obtain them, then you can produce an original receipt from the institution, and submit a written undertaking that you will produce all original certificates at the time of admission to the B.Sc. (Nursing) course.
Here are details of the various parts of the screening process-
The ToGlGE: This is a simple Computer Based Test (CBT) of 30 minutes duration with 40 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Each correct answer will be given 2 marks, with a negative mark 0.5 for an incorrect answer. Total marks = 80.
The Psychological Assessment and Interview: You have to answer General Knowledge questions, questions related to the subjects of the Class 12 level, general interests, etc. You could also mention your achievements in Sports and other competitions.

Once you get a seat at the college, you will begin training. The training includes a monthly stipend, free accommodation and ration, and an allowance for the uniform. Other allowances may be given as well as per the prevalent rules.
It is mandatory to sign an Agreement/Bond to serve in the Military Nursing Service (MNS), Armed Forces Medical Services at the time of admission. Once you have successfully completed the course and the result of the B.Sc. Nursing Course is declared by the affiliating university, you will get a Permanent/Short Service Commission in the Military Nursing Service.
