It is not that the diploma course only developes your skills in the field of theatre. The Diploma program is a Govt.-recognized course and thus it is an acceptable academic qualification for seeking employment in any post under the Central Govt. of India, where specialization is required in the field of Dramatics. What's more, the Diploma is considered equivalent to a Master's Degree in Dramatics, and hence you can apply for teaching jobs in Govt. and private educational institutions, as well as apply for doctoral programs and research work.

Overview of NSD Diploma Course

There are 29 seats for the academic session of 2023-26, with seats for reserved category candidates as per the norms of the Govt. of India. One or two foreign students may be given admission as well.

Since it is a residential course, you must stay in the hostel. There is provision for separate hostel rooms for boys and girls on a room-sharing/dormitory basis.

The course syllabus covers myriad aspects of not just acting, but also set design, direction, production, etc. You will learn classical and contemporary theatre forms and techniques of both India and other countries. While the first year will introduce you to the fundamentals of theatre techniques and then the more in-depth aspects, as well as open the doors of theatre history and literature, in the second year you can choose a specialized field between either Acting or Theatre Techniques & Design. In the case of the latter, only five seats will be available; the others will have to take up the specialization in acting. This specialization will continue in the third year as well.
