About CESS
Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS), Hyderabad was established in the year 1980 as an autonomous research center and it was recognized as a national institute in the year 1986 by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. It is registered under the Act of 1976 and Section 6(1) (a) of the foreign contribution that enables for carrying out of research work by accepting contributions from external agencies. Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS), Hyderabad in collaboration with Telangana University, Nizamabad has invited applications for admission into the regular PhD Programme in Development Studies for the academic year 2023-24. The Ph.D. Programs is offered in the following streams-Duration of the Course and Intake of Seats
The Duration of the course will be five years in that one year for coursework and 4 years for completion of research or Thesis work after registration for Ph.D. The total intake of seats will be 12 Seats.Fees Details
The Admission fee for Ph.D. programs will be Rs. 5,000/- for one time, the tuition fee will be Rs. 25,000/- per annum, Course work examination fee will be Rs. 500/- per paper, the registration fee and re-registration fee will be Rs. 5,000/- for one time and Thesis Adjudication fee will be Rs. 10,000/-.Eligibility Criteria
You need to fulfill the following eligibility criteria for admission to the Ph.D. Program:Selection Process
Selection is done based on the entrance test and the personal interview conducted and candidates who are having UGC JRF fellowship are exempted from the entrance test they have to attend the interview directly. The result will be based on the weightage in the entrance test and the interview i.e., 70% for the entrance test and 30% for the interview. Entrance test details
The entrance test will be conducted either online or offline by the center for admission into Ph.D. Program. The qualifying marks for the entrance test will be 50% of the marks and a relaxation of 5% of marks will be considered in the case of candidates belonging to the SC/ST/PwD/OBC category. The duration of the test will be 2 hours and the total marks for the exam will be 70 marks. The question paper consists of two parts and each part carries 35 marks. You have to submit the online application for admission into Ph.D. Programs through the CESS website or you can send the downloaded and filled-in application form along with the required documents to the following address "The Dean, Division of Graduate Studies, Centre for Economic and Social Studies, Nizamiah Observatory Campus, Begumpet, Hyderabad-500016" on or before 9th July 2023. The application fee of Rs. 1000/- should be paid which is not refundable.Documents required to be submitted
