About NIMHANS

National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) was established in the year 1954 by the Government of India. It is deemed to be a university in 1994 by UGC. It is affiliated to the Bangalore University in 1964. It offers various Under Graduate courses like Nursing, Medical, Diploma, Certificate, etc.

Admissions 2023

National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluruhas announced admission to Under Graduate, Diploma, and Certificate Courses in the following disciplines for the academic year 2023-24.

Intake of Seats and Duration of the Course


  • For B.Sc. in Nursing: The total number of seats is 85 seats and the duration of the course will be 4 years plus 1 year for internship.
  • For B.Sc. in Radiography: The total number of seats is 11 seats and the duration of the course will be 3 years plus a 1-year internship.
  • For B.Sc. in Anaesthesia Technology: The total number of seats is 11 seats and the duration of the course will be 3 years plus a 1-year internship.
  • For B.Sc. in Clinical Neurophysiology Technology: The total number of seats is 7 seats and the duration of the course will be 3 years plus a 1-year internship.
  • For Post Basic Diploma in Psychiatric/ Mental Health Nursing: The total number of seats is 45 seats and the duration of the course will be 1 year.
  • For Post Basic Diploma in Neurosciences Nursing: The total number of seats is 9 seats and the duration of the course will be 1 year.
  • For the certificate course in Neuropathology Technology: The total number of seats is 2 seats and the duration of the course will be 1 year.

Eligibility Criteria

  • For B.Sc. in Nursing, you must have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 45% of aggregate marks in subjects Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and English.
  • For B.Sc. in Radiography, you must have passed 10+2 with aggregate marks of 45% in subjects English, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology from a recognized board or job-oriented diploma course.
  • For B.Sc. in Anaesthesia Technology and Clinical Neurophysiology and Technology Courses, you must have passed 10+2 or PUC or equivalent with a Science background with a minimum of 45% of aggregate marks in science subjects.
  • If you belong to SC/ ST Category then a minimum of 5% of relaxation in aggregate marks and age relaxation of a maximum of 5 years will be considered .
  • Age relaxation of a maximum of 3 years will be considered for OBC candidates.
  • Age limit for all B.Sc. Courses should be between 17 to 25 years and for certificate courses the upper age limit is 40 years.
  • There is no age limit for Diploma courses.

Selection Process


Selection is made based on the entrance exam conducted by the institute and original documents submitted at the time of admission. Candidates selected for the entrance exam need to download the admit card from the institute website and they need to produce it at the time of the entrance exam.

And shortlisted candidates need to attend for admission along with original certificates for verification. The date, venue, and time for admission will be announced on the institute's website. You need to check the institute website from time to time for information related to whether selected or not for the entrance exam and Admission no other communication will be entertained.

Entrance Exam Details

The entrance exam will be conducted for 100 marks for all UG Courses. The question paper will be in the form of multiple-choice questions and the duration of the exam will be 90 minutes. The number of questions to be answered will be 100 and there will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer and there will be no cutoff marks for unanswered questions. The entrance exam will be conducted in Bengaluru and any changes in venue, time and date will be announced on the institute website and institute notice board.

Application Procedure

You can apply online through the NIMHANS website for admission to UG Courses for the academic year 2023-24. You must submit the filled-in online application form along with the required documents, signature, and photograph through the link provided on the institute website online by 7th July 2023. Applications received after the last date of submission will not be considered.

The application fee is Rs. 1000/- for General/ OBC/ EVS Categories and Rs. 750 for ST/SC categories. And there is no application fee for PwBD Category. And for queries related to the admission you can mail to the email id admissions@nimhans.ac.in and no other mode of communication will be entertained. You can apply up to 3 courses at a time.

Documents need to be attached

  • 10th Certificate.
  • Intermediate Mark sheet.
  • Job-oriented diploma marks if applicable.
  • Transfer certificate from a school/ college/ institute.
  • Migration certificate from the board/ department of pre-university education.
  • Caste certificate in case of ST/ SC/ EWS/ PwBD.
  • Domicile certificate if applicable.
  • Sponsorship certificate if applicable.

  • Start date for submission of online application: 08th June 2023.
  • Last date for submission of online application: 07th July 2023.
  • Date of entrance exam: 16th July 2023.
  • Date of results: 20th July 2023.
  • Date of selected candidates for admission: 25th July 2023.
  • Date of admission for B.Sc. and CCNT courses: 04th August 2023.
  • Date of admission to Diploma Courses: 05th August 2023.
  • Date of commencement of classes for all UG courses: 01st September 2023
