JKOS has set up Accredited Study Centres at more than 30 Government High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools in the Districts of Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. Anyone can apply for admission, including school dropouts, unemployed individuals, those who were unable to complete their formal school education, those who failed, etc. Study materials in English will be provided through the study centres, and 30 contact sessions, known as Personal Contact Programs (PCPs) will be scheduled at the various study centres. If the subject has practicals, then there will be 25 classes for theory and 5 classes for practicals.
Note that the contact sessions are not teaching classes and there will not be any classes online. You will be studying the subjects entirely through a self-learning process through the study material provided. The contact sessions are only for general guidance and mentoring and for submission of assignments. It is mandatory to attend 5 practical sessions.
Flexibility is provided, to allow you to appear in any one or more subjects in any exam and earn credits that will be accumulated till all the 5 subjects that are required for certification are successfully completed. However, you must successfully complete the 5 subjects within five years of the date of registration. That is, you will get a pass certificate only on passing a minimum of five subjects. You can even apply for, and appear in, an improvement exam for a particular subject, but only once for each subject. Keep in mind, though, that the syllabus of a specific subject may change from one year to another.
You will be given three Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs) for each subject, and you must submit at least one for each subject as per the schedule given, otherwise, you will not be allowed to appear for the Class 10/Class 12 public exams. The TMA will be returned to you once it is evaluated by the study centre's tutor.
