Want to know how to participate in the International Science and Maths Olympiads in 2024? Looking for the schedule of the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education's National Olympiad Programs 2023? This article provides complete information on the eligibility requirements to appear for the National Standard Exams (NSEs), and the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics that are mandatory for participating in the 2024 International Olympiads.

Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HSCSE), which is under the aegis of the Tata Institute of Information Research (TIFR) has issued the notification for registrations for the National Olympiad Program 2023-24 in Astronomy, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Junior Science, and Maths. If you wish to participate in the program, you need to appear for the corresponding National Standard Exams (NSEs) for science subjects in November 2023, and in the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) for Mathematics in September 2023. Once you qualify through these, then you move on to the next stage towards participation in the corresponding International Olympiads of 2024.

National Standard Examinations 2023

The National Standard Examinations are conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). The NSEs and eligibility are-
Specific Science subjects: Physics (NSEP), Chemistry (NSEC), Biology (NSEB), and Astronomy (NSEA).
Who can register: You should be a senior student of Class 10, 11, or 12. Date of birth- born between 1st July 2004 and 30th June 2009.

Good to know: Gold medalists in NSEP, after they complete their education, may join DAE directly through an interview without appearing in their entrance test. Those who seek admission in B.Sc. (with Physics physics) after NSEP are eligible for scholarships (up to 10 scholarships are offered).

Junior Science (NSEJS): You should be a student of Class 8, 9, or 10. Date of birth- born in 2009 or 2010.

Exams for Mathematical Olympiads

For the 2023-2024 session, there are 3 stages for selection to the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC). The first stage is the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) which will be conducted by the Mathematics Teachers' Association (India) (MTAI). This is an OMR-based exam of 10 questions, and the answer to each question is an integer in the range 00-99. You need to qualify through this stage to proceed to the next one.

The second stage is the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) with 6 questions, for which the answer requires writing detailed proof. The third and final stage is the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) with 6 questions, for which the answer requires writing detailed proof. While the first two stages are of 3 hours duration, the third one is of 4 ½ hours.
