The Bombay Hospital College of Nursing, Mumbai has released the admission notification for the 2-year M.Sc. Nursing course for the academic session starting in 2023. The college is affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council, as well as the Maharashtra Nursing Council.

On campus: In addition to classrooms for lectures, the campus has an auditorium, a computer lab with internet facilities, a library with relevant reference books and e-books, facilities for banking and communication (STD and ISD), and a hostel facility.



About the M.Sc. Nursing Course

The postgraduate M.Sc. Nursing course, which is of two years duration, aims to develop knowledge and skills that are conducive to a career as a competent nursing specialist. You will not only acquire a professional qualification but also personal skills such as leadership qualities. Other than nursing education, nursing practice, and nursing management, the course modules include nursing research and statistics. The Clinical specialties are Medical Surgical Nursing - Cardiovascular and Thoracic Nursing, Child Health - Paediatric Nursing, and Community Health Nursing. There is also a two-week educational tour.

Faculty: Rest assured, you are getting an excellent nursing education, as all the faculty who are teaching the M.Sc. Nursing course have the relevant qualifications to teach in the field of their specialization, as well as many years of experience, with most continuing on the teaching team of the Bombay Hospital College of Nursing for 10 years and above.

Number of seats: There are 20 seats, out of which 8 are for Medical Surgical Nursing, 6 for Paediatric Nursing, and 6 for Community Health Nursing. 60% of the seats, that is 12 seats, are in the Open category, while 25% (five seats) have been kept for those applying in the reserved category as per the norms of the Govt. 15% are for NRIs (three seats).

Eligibility requirements

Only female candidates who are medically fit can apply for admission to the M.Sc. Nursing course. Other criteria are-

Educational Qualifications: You should have passed the B.Sc.Nursing/B.Sc.Hons. Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing course with at least 55% aggregate marks (the minimum aggregate marks have been relaxed by 5% for SC and ST candidates).

Nursing registration: You should be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife.

Experience: You should have at least one year of work experience after passing the Basic B.Sc. Nursing course and the State Nursing Council registration.



Entrance test: It is essential to appear for the Institutional Entrance test. Candidates will be selected on the basis of merit as per the scores of the APGN-CET (Admission to Post Graduate Nursing-Common Entrance Test) that is conducted by the Association of Management of Unaided Private Medical and Dental Colleges of Maharashtra (AMUPMDC). Once admission is approved, you need to submit originals of relevant certificates and documents to the college at the time of admission. Those who are applying in the reserved category must submit the Caste validity and Caste Certificate.

M.Sc. Nursing Course Fees

The M.Sc. course fee can be paid in two installments with a Demand Draft (DD) in favour of 'Bombay Hospital Trust', payable at Mumbai. The security deposit is Rs. 10,000/-, which is refunded after you complete the course after deducting breakage charges, if any.

Note that the course fee for the 2023-24 batch is not mentioned on the official website. As per the details given for the academic year 2021-22, the tuition fee was Rs. 79,638/-, and the development fee was Rs. 8,362/-. You can make inquiries with the college about the total fee for the 2023 session, and find out the fee for the admission form, as well as the additional hostel fee that is charged if you are keen to take up the course as a residential student.

Application procedure

It is not clear whether an online application link will be provided or whether you are required to visit the college in person and take the application form from the college office.

After the result: Provisional admission will be given till the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences grants eligibility and the Pravesh Niyantran Samitee (Admissions Regulatory Authority) approves the admission.
