Managing a child's studies - Useful Tips for Parents
In this article, I am providing some useful tips for parents to handle their children's studies effectively. Parents should cleverly manage children's studies so they develop a love for learning and are not frustrated when they study.
Compared to older students, primary-class students cannot study independently as they are still younger. In fact, even some children in middle school or high school rely on their parents for their studies. If your child is suffering from problems such as ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, etc., then you should provide support for them. Generally, you should calmly and wisely manage your child's studies so they are able to study effectively. The child should be satisfied after studying for some time.
Important points for parents when handling a child's studies
Fix Study Time
You should fix the timing for your child to cater to their study needs. Your child should ideally study for one hour daily if they are in 1st or 2nd grade. If your child is studying in 3rd or 4th grade, then ideally spend one and a half hours. The students who are studying in 5th, 6th, and 7th, should study for about two hours. High school students should study two and a half hours, ideally, or even more if they are weaker.
Also, preferably, do not conduct studies continuously, but allow your kids a short break when they require it. Your child should not study too long, as it affects mental wellness.Let the kid feel comfortable, but not too comfortable
Your child should preferably sit on an armed chair with the books, with the books that are required for studying neatly kept on the table in front. Do not pile too many books on the table so your kid is confused. Also, do not allow your kid to sit on the bed to study, so he or she will feel lethargic and get too comfortable!Keep away distractive things
On the study table, do not keep any items such as mobiles, toys, balls, or any household items. Your kids can get easily distracted and will not concentrate on their studies.
Only what is required for studying should be on the table.Stay calm and composed
While you are handling your kid's studies, be calm and patient. Do not lose patience and become frustrated if your child is not able to grasp a concept quickly. If your kid is not learning as quickly as you expect, that does not mean your kid is dull. Your child is perhaps not learning an answer quickly as he or she is unfamiliar with the topic. Perhaps you need to use special techniques to teach your child. If your mind is calm, only then can you think effectively and discover newer learning methods. Speak in a gentle tone without feeling tense or frustrated. Your enthusiastic voice is a source of motivation for your child. Do not expect your child to learn or grasp the matter as quickly as possible. Some parents are hyper, and a child becomes really shaken. For example, if your child is not able to learn a lengthy answer in a day or within a specified time, then allow him or her to learn it the next day. Do not chase your child to learn the answer quickly.Become innovative
Instead of losing patience or slapping your child when he or she is unable to learn, become innovative. Use the best techniques to teach your child. Many children are weaker in mathematics as it is a difficult subject. You can find out some different methods to teach your child. For example, you can use picture presentations to teach addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Addition is the sum of two numbers, and hence you can draw a picture of a basket containing balls in each basket and ask, "So how many balls are kept in each basket?" Similarly, you can present a picture to show subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Use flashcards to teach and revise theory in subjects such as science, social studies, or languages. You should write questions and answers on separate papers. Only write one question on a small sheet and then an answer on another sheet. Consequently, write other questions and answers. The kids can learn quickly and enthusiastically through visual presentations. Identify your child's learning pattern to discover newer methods of learning.Oral and written methods of studying
Let your child first learn the answers orally, and when they are able to perfectly tell the answers, begin the writing session. The child should be prepared to write an exam paper before the exams. As soon as the notes are provided to your child, start oral learning, but do not pressurize your child to learn answers as quickly as possible. Your child should be able to write answers confidently on a piece of paper before exams.
A final advice would be not to miss the study time of your child, except on special occasions or when your child is sick. Let your child study regularly and steadily.
A good article from the author. The role of parents in their children's education second to none. A teacher will be collectively teaching a group of students. All students in the class room are equal to the teacher. But for a parent no other child is as important as their his/her own children. So they should take interest in the studies of their children. Parents should spend some time with their children daily and see how they are studying. They should also understand the areas which are to be improved by their children. They should explain them the subject if necessary and should provide additional coaching in the form of tuitions so that the student will get improvement in such areas also.
