INSPIRE Scholarship for Higher Education 2023 for Basic and Natural Science Students

Overview

As an initiative to inspire young, bright minds who are interested in pursuing studies in basic and natural science, the Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) was launched in 2017 by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research), the flagship inception of the Department of Science and Technology, has introduced this Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) 2023 for deserving candidates aspiring to study Basic and Natural Science at the UG/PG/research levels.

Highlights of the Scholarship for Higher Education 2023

  • It is highlighted that 12,000 scholarships have been offered from the year 2017, and each scholarship has a value of 80,000 per annum.
  • Every aspirant pursuing Basic and Natural science will be awarded an annual scholarship of Rs. 60,000 (Rs. 5000 per month) and a Mentorship grant of Rs. 20,000 every year for summer-time research projects.
  • The scholars under this SHE program need to take up a research project under the guidance of a mentor in a recognized center for research in the country. They are required to complete the project and get a certificate from the mentor within the stipulated period.
  • The candidates selected for the Scholarship for Higher Education 2023 will be provided a scholarship for five years at the maximum from the first year of B.Sc./B.S./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. till the completion of the program.
  • The scholarships will be continued based on the academic reports and recommendations by the institution head.
  • The reward amount will be directly sent to the beneficiary's State Bank of India savings bank account through direct benefit transfer. Thus, the scholars need to have an SBI account.
  • The scholar should not be the beneficiary of any other scholarships awarded by the State government/Central government/others.
  • No reservation policy is followed.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: The applicants should be between 17-22 years of age.
  • Education: Students pursuing B.Sc./B.S./Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S. in Basic and Natural Sciences in the following subjects are eligible to apply. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Statistics, Geology, Astrophysics, Astronomy, Electronics, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Anthropology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Atmospheric sciences, and Oceanic Sciences.
  • Candidates pursuing courses through open universities and distance education are not considered.
  • Students who have completed their XII board examination this year alone are eligible to apply.
  • The applicants' rank should be in the top 1% of the XII board examination or may be within the top 10000 ranks in the JEE of IIT/AIPMT/NEET or NTSE/JBNSTS/KVPY scholar or International Olympiad medalist.

Documents required to apply for SHE 2023

  • Class XII mark sheet
  • Class X mark sheet for proof of birth certificate
  • Endorsement Certificate signed by the principal/director of the Institution or registrar of the university.
  • Eligibility Note or Advisory Note (if provided by the State/Central Board, not necessary)
  • Certificate of rank or award in JEE of IIT/AIPMT/NEET or NTSE/JBNSTS/KVPY/International Olympiad medallist (if applicable under this criterion).

Applications for the SHE program are now kept open and the last date to apply is 9th November 2023.
