The Indian Institute of Management, Mumbai (IIM Mumbai) which was earlier known by the name of NITIE (National Institute of Industrial Engineering) had recently announced admissions open for the MBA programs. It is necessary to appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT), and the scores of GRE/GMAT/UGC JRF/GATE in the relevant areas will be accepted in lieu of CAT. However, only the scores obtained at a test centre and not online at home will be accepted. Applicants should check the validity of the CAT and the other standard test scores, including for alumni of IIMs, as mentioned in the official brochure.
About IIM Mumbai Ph.D. Program
This doctoral program is a five-year full-time regular Ph.D. program that is recognized by the Ministry of Education. The curriculum includes core courses, stream-specific courses, PGP Courses (courses from the specific domain and other areas), and seminar presentations.
While pursuing the research work towards the Ph.D. you may be eligible to take up an Assistantship at IIM Mumbai as per Govt. norms. However, you are not permitted to take up any type of job either on a full-time or a part-time basis while enrolled in the Ph.D. program at IIM Mumbai.
You are required to submit your Thesis after a minimum of two years from the date of registration, and the maximum time period allowed for the submission of the Thesis is five years from the date of admission or four years from the date of registration, whichever is earlier. A grant of extension may be permitted (refer to the official brochure for details).Eligibility requirements
You should have a Master's degree or a 2-year Post Graduate Diploma that has been obtained after you completed a Bachelor's degree with 55% marks or equivalent, or a 5-year Integrated Master's degree that has been obtained after completing higher secondary school in the 10+2 pattern in any field with 55% marks or equivalent. The qualifying Degree/Diploma should be from a recognized university/institution. Candidates applying in the reserved category may be given a relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying exam.
Other acceptable qualifications are - a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's degree with a minimum CGPA of 6.5/10 or comparable grades, or a professional qualification such as CA, CS, CMA with a minimum of 50% marks + a Bachelor's degree with at least 55% marks.
IIM Mumbai regular Ph.D. Program Fee: The total fees for the regular Ph.D. program is Rs. 65,000/- (this includes the tuition fee of Rs. 24,000/-) for the first year and Rs. 55,000/- for the second year onwards. About IIM Mumbai Executive Ph.D. Program
The Executive Ph.D. program is for professionally employed individuals at the Officer/Executive level in a Govt. organization or those who have extensive managerial experience in a private organization. If it is a private organization, it should be one that is listed in premier Stock Exchanges and has an annual turnover of at least Rs. 200 crore.
You can continue your work and take up the five-year full-time program in the parent organization while getting the guidance of an IIM Mumbai faculty member. You must also ensure that you set aside time for attending a seminar, presenting the synopsis, and writing the Thesis.
You will be required to spend a minimum of one week per semester at IIM Mumbai, interacting with your Supervisor(s). For this duration, you can apply for the campus hostel facility if it is available, and pay the requisite hostel fee for it. However, you will not be offered any Assistantship/Fellowship by the institute. Eligibility requirements
Age criterion: The upper age limit is 45 years, which may be relaxed to 55 years for exceptionally brilliant candidates.
Academic Qualifications and Experience: You must have completed a full-time one-year/2-semester Master's degree program from a recognized university/institution with at least 65% marks in aggregate after completing a full-time 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's degree program with at least 65% marks.
You can also apply if you have completed a 2-year/4-semester full-time Master's degree program with at least 65% marks after a 3-year full-time Bachelor's degree program with at least 65% marks, or its equivalent grade. Note that if you are applying based on the Master's degree program, you should have at least two years of professional experience after the master's degree.
Other acceptable educational qualifications are- a 4-year/8-semester full-time Bachelor's degree program with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade with at least four years of professional experience after obtaining the Bachelor's degree; or a professional qualification such as CA, ICWA, CS with at least 60% aggregate mark + a B.Com/Degree with at least 60% aggregate marks. It is also required to have a minimum of two of professional experience after completion of the professional degree.
Note- It will be advantageous to have published research papers in reputed International Conferences/Journals/ Patents/Technology transfer.
IIM Mumbai Executive Ph.D. Program Fee: The total fee to be paid for the Executive Ph.D. program is Rs. 1,50,000/- per year. Refer to the official brochure to know the breakup of the fee structure, and the annual life membership fee.Application procedure
You have to register and apply through online mode at the IIM Mumbai Admissions portal. Before doing so, it is advisable to go through the official brochure and read the instructions on the application process.
Application Fee: The non-refundable application fee of Rs. 2000/- for general category candidates, and Rs. 1000/- for SC/ST/PwD candidates has to be paid online.Post-application processes
After the initial screening of applications, if you are shortlisted for admission, you must appear for the written test (CAT), and then the further stages of the selection process, namely, a Research Presentation, and a Personal Interview (Pl) at IIM Mumbai. The schedule will be given through intimation by email and/or online notification on the official website. A final merit list will be prepared based on the performance of all the candidates in the various evaluation components. On receiving an admission offer from IIM, Mumbai, you are required to accept the offer within the stipulated date specified and must pay the full admission fees (refer to the official brochure to know about withdrawal and refunds).
IIM Mumbai Ph.D. Common Admission Test (CAT): This is a written test that will have multiple choice questions, subjective questions, and a writing ability section.
