Applications open for free DBT Biotech Industrial Training Program (BITP) 2023-24 with stipend


Looking for government biotech or bioinformatics industrial training programs? The Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India is offering biotechnology and bioinformatics graduates and postgraduate students an opportunity to get hands-on training skills to boost their job chances. This article explains the features of the training program, stipend offered, eligibility criteria, admission test, and the online application procedure.

The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India invites applications from students who are citizens of India for a hands-on industrial skill training program that has been organized by the DBT-HRD Project Management Unit at the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) in Faridabad. The goal of the program is to provide employment opportunities in government and private sector companies in the fields of biotechnology and life science. Trainees of the BITP do not pay any fees for the program. They only have to pay an application fee and will get a regular monthly stipend.



Features of BITP

Selection process: If your eligibility certificates and application are accepted, you will be required to appear for a computer-based test (details of the test are provided later in this article).

Location and Accommodation: You will be placed for training anywhere in India, with the possibility of getting placed in the training program that is near your home town. No accommodation will be provided. Hence, you need to make arrangements for the same at your own expense. However, the trainer company may assist you in finding accommodation or make arrangements for it.

Stipend: For the duration of the program, you will receive a minimum monthly stipend of Rs. 9,000/- per month from the trainer company, as per apprenticeship norms. You will get a monthly stipend of Rs. 10,000/- upon successful completion of six months of training and assessment.

Eligibility criteria: You should be a Graduate/Postgraduate in a Biotechnology/Bioinformatics course from an Indian-recognized university with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade. The qualifying degree course should have been completed in the academic year 2020-21, 2021-22, or 2022-23. The following educational qualifications are accepted- B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc./M.Tech./M.V.Sc.Animal Biotechnology/MBA in relevant fields of Biotechnology/Bioinformatics such as pharmaceutical biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, medical biotechnology, marine biotechnology, etc. Postgraduates with an M. Sc. in Neuro Sciences or an M. Sc. in Agri-Biotechnology are also welcome to apply.

A student who has been admitted under the DBT PG teaching program in Biotechnology is also eligible to apply for the BITP training program.

Certification: Once you complete the training program, you have to appear for an online assessment test that will be conducted by the Sector Skill Council. On clearing the test, you will receive an Apprenticeship Certificate under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) by the Sector Skill Council.

Note that a company may stop your training and direct you to leave on the grounds of unsatisfactory work or indiscipline. In such a scenario, you will not be placed in another company. Stipend also will be stopped if your training is terminated by the company or you choose to leave it.



Placement: Successful completion of the training program does not guarantee a permanent placement.

Application fee: Rs. 900/- is the application fee which should be paid through online mode with a Debit Card or Credit card or through UPI or internet banking. This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

BITP Application procedure

You have to register and submit your application online at https://bitp23.onlineapplicationform.org/BITP/

Scan the following documents and keep them ready to upload for the online application-
  1. Your passport size photo in .jpeg format

  2. Your signature in .jpeg format

  3. A self-attested copy of the final certificate/mark sheet of graduation and post-graduation. This should indicate the cumulative percentage of marks or CGPA.

Note- During the online application, you can select up to three cities as test centres.

BITP Admission Test Structure

The computer-based test for selecting candidates for the BITP training program is 100 marks with Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). The duration of the test is 100 minutes. One mark will be awarded to the correct answer, and there is no negative marking for a wrong answer. The syllabus for this test is the same as the syllabus of M.Sc. General Biotechnology (refer- https://dbtindia.gov.in/).

The format of the test is-
  • Questions on General Science: 12 questions (total = 12 marks).

  • Questions on Biotechnology: 76 questions (total = 76 marks). This section will have questions related to various branches of biotechnology, including biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, animal biotech, plant biotech, bioinformatics, etc.

  • General Aptitude/Analytical, General knowledge Questions: 12 questions (total = 12 marks).




Important dates

The last date to submit the online application is 31st December 2023.
The Hall Ticket/Admit Card for the admission test will be available for download on the official website on 15th January 2023.
The Date of the Admission Test is 21st January 2024.

Information for Trainer Companies

Companies that are keen to provide the training as part of the BITP can download the requisition form from the official website, complete it, sign it, and submit it by email to bitp.dbt@rcb.res.in

Note- The trainer company will receive a fee of Rs. 23,350/-per candidate to cover the expenses towards training that will be for 6 months. The trainer company will be required to pay the stipend to the trainees as per the apprenticeship norms in addition to the stipend paid by DBT. The main fields of training include R&D, IPR, Clinical trials/Contract Manufacturing, Bioinformatics, Bioethics, etc (refer to the official website for the full list, and specializations).
