Teaching Career through Maharashtra State Eligibility Test for Assistant Professors April 2024

This article provides complete information about the 2024 Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (MH-SET) which you need to clear to take up a faculty post as an Assistant Professor in a university or affiliated college in Maharashtra and Goa. Savitribai Phule Pune University will be conducting the Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (MH-SET) which is accredited by UGC, for those who are keen to take up a teaching position as an Assistant Professor in a university or affiliated college in the States of Maharashtra and Goa.

Note that you can take up a post of Assistant Professor only in these two States and even if you clear the MH-SET, you will be required to fulfill any other eligibility requirements of the institute as per UGC norms. Potential employers will be able to get online access to verify the MH-SET result, and only an e-certificate, and not mark sheets, will be issued to qualified candidates. In the case of reserved category candidates, only those applicants who are from Maharashtra and Goa are permitted to apply under the reserved category, while those from other States should select the General category when applying online, otherwise, they will be disqualified.

Overview of MH-SET for Assistant Professorship

MH-SET will be conducted for various subjects under in the disciplines of Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, Mental Moral and Social Sciences, Management, Education and Physical Education. You are permitted to appear for MH-SET only in the same subject as that of your Postgraduate Degree, but if the subject is different and not covered in the list of those in which MH-SET will be conducted, then you can appear for a related subject as per the UGC (NET) guidelines. Also, you can appear only in one subject and not more than one. In case you already qualified SET in a subject, then you appear again for SET in that same subject. If you do so, then legal action may be taken against you, and you will not be issued a certificate.



MH-SET 2024 Eligibility Criteria

While there is no upper age limit, you need to fulfill the following eligibility requirements-
Educational Qualification: You should have a UGC-recognized Master's Degree in the same subject as the one that you are appearing for in SET. If you have a Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate that has been awarded by an Indian University/Institute or a Foreign Degree or Diploma or Certificate that has been awarded by a foreign University/Institute, then you must ensure that the equivalence of this with a Master's Degree of recognized Indian Universities is acceptable by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.

It is also essential to have a minimum of 55% marks (without gracing or rounding off) in the qualifying exam of the Master's or the equivalent exam (min. of 50% for reserved category candidates).

If you are currently studying in the first year of a 2-year Master's Course or the first two semesters of a 4-semester course of the Master's Degree or are studying in the fourth year of a 5-year Integrated Masters Course, then you are not eligible to appear for the MH-SET of April 2024. If you are appearing for the qualifying exam for the Master's Degree or are awaiting the result, then you are eligible to sit for MH-SET but will be considered eligible for the post of Assistant Professor only on clearing the qualifying Master's exam with the min. required marks as mentioned.

Note- If you have obtained an M.Sc. through research/a Program Project Report (PPR), then you are not eligible to appear for the MH-SET.



MH-SET April 2024 Exam fee

The non-refundable exam fee, including the processing fee, is as follows-
For Open category applicants: Rs.800/-.
For applicants applying under the category of SC/ST/PwD/Transgender/Orphans/OBC/DT(A)(VJ)/NT(B)/NT(C)/NT(D)/SBC (Non-Creamy Layer only)/EWS (Open): Rs.650/-.

This fee should be paid online with a Debit Card or a Credit Card or through Net banking only.

MH-SET Application procedure

You must read the information bulletin first and then register with a valid e-mail ID and password at the official MH=SSET registration website. Then proceed with the online application process. Ensure that you enter all the details correctly, including your name, Aadhar number, category, subject, etc. After filling in the details and uploading a scanned passport-size photo (maximum 50kb in JPG or JPEG format) and signature (maximum 30kb JPG or JPEG format), you should use the preview button and check for errors, correcting them quickly. Once the window for editing closes on 10th February 2024, requests to correct details already submitted will not be accepted.

After the final submission of the application, download, save, and take a printout of it for future reference. There will be two pages, the first has the details of the application form, and the second page has details of the online payment transaction. Do not send any certificate or document as proof of eligibility, nor should you send a printout of the application form to Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, or to any coordinating center.

The MH-SET Admit Card will be available for download at the official website well in advance (at least 10 days in advance) of the entrance test. Ensure that you download it, and take a printout as you must bring it to the test centre along with a photo ID in original on the date of the test. The photo ID can be the Voter ID the PAN Card the Aadhaar Card or any other valid Government-issued photo ID.

MH-SET April 2024 Format

The offline test to be conducted at various centers across India will have two papers, all with objective-type questions. Both papers are scheduled on the same date together with no break for the candidates.

The two papers are-
Paper 1 (100 marks): 50 questions of a general nature from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with two marks awarded for a correct answer. There will be no negative marks for an incorrect answer.

Paper 2 (200 marks): 100 questions based on the subject that you selected from 11.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. with two marks awarded for a correct answer. There will be no negative marks for an incorrect answer.

MH-SET Test Centres Locations: Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Dhule, Solapur, Kolhapur, Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, Amravati, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ratnagiri, Parbhani, Nanded, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Panjim (in Goa).

Re-evaluation: Once the result is declared, there will be no re-evaluation/re-checking of the questions.



Important dates

The online application form should be submitted from 12th January 2024, 11 a.m. up to 31st January 2024, 6 p.m.

The last date to pay the online fee is 31st January 2024, 6 p.m.

In case you miss the deadline of the closing date, you can apply online with a late fee of Rs. 500/- from 1st February 2024, 11 a.m. up to 7th February 2024, 6 p.m. and the last date to pay the online application fee for such applicants is 7th February 2024, 6 p.m.

You can, if required, make corrections/edit details in the online application form on the official website from 8th February 2024, 11 a.m. up to 10th February 2024, 6 p.m.

The Admit Card for MH-SET April 2024 will be available to download from the official website on 28th March 2024, 10 a.m. onward.

The date of MH-SET April 2024 is 7th April 2024 (Sunday).
