A glimpse into the Summer Fellowship Program 2024


As a gateway for non-IIT engineering graduates all over India to explore intensive research-oriented projects, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras has initiated a Summer Fellowship Program for 2024. This is a tailor-made program with a duration of two months from 22nd May up to 21st July 2024 exclusively for students from diversified educational backgrounds such as Bachelor of Engineering/BTech/BSc(engineering), integrated ME/MTech programs, and ME/ MTech/MSc/MA, MBA programs. The IIT students are not eligible for this program. This fellowship program supports the prospective candidates financially offering a stipend of INR 6000 monthly with accommodation if required as well. The program duration will be made flexible to suit the convenience of the selected fellows if needed.

The last date for online submission of the application is March 31, 2024, at 5:00 pm.

Eligibility to apply


The students who are studying in the 3rd year of BE /BTech /BSc (Engineering), 3rd/4th year of Integrated ME /MTech program, and the first year of ME/ MTech/ MBA/MSc/MA are eligible to apply. The candidates must have excellent academic performance in the university examinations, paper presentations at the seminars, execution of projects, participation in design contests, ranks/awards in Mathematics/Science Olympiads, etc.

Documents/files required


While filling up the application form for the Fellowship Program required documents/files should be as per the stipulated size mentioned on the official website.
  • Passport size photograph
  • Academic certificates including class X, class XII, and UG mark sheets to be scanned and uploaded as a single PDF file
  • Category and PWD (Person with Disability) certificate if applicable
  • The Bonafide Certificate obtained from the Head of the Institution the applicant is studying (templates are available on the website)

Application Procedure


The candidates must apply online for this customized fellowship program for non-IIT students through the IIT Madras official website.
  • To log in, the applicant should create a new account by providing a valid email address and username or login name.
  • The candidate will be sent a confirmation email from the official email of the program to his/her given email ID and by clicking the link provided in the email password can be created.
  • The applicant can verify/check updates on the application process whenever required by logging in using the username and password.
  • Once logging in, the application process continues with the tab, "My application summary" and there will be Form-1 as a link named "Add/Edit profile" to fill up personal details and Form-2 as a link named "Add/Edit Academic details" to complete the educational details and the above personal and academic details can be edited at any time before the last date using the respective links.
  • Before submitting the application form, required documents/files/photographs should be kept ready, scanned, and need to be uploaded in the format mentioned on the IITM Summer Fellowship Program official website.
  • Finally, by clicking the "Submit Application" link, the department in which the fellowship aspirant is applying must be chosen and a sequential application number will be created for future reference and the results will be informed by the concerned departments.
