SNTCSSC Overview

Located in Kolkata, the Satyendra Nath Tagore Civil Services Study Centre (SNTCSSC) was started as a result of an inspirational directive of the Honorable Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee. The goal of this Centre is to guide the youth of the State who aim to serve the nation through various branches of the Civil Services, such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), etc.

SNTCSSC has acquired a reputation for providing excellent coaching which is supported by the fact that their students have regularly qualified to appear for the UPSC Personality Test, with a few of them even making it to the final list of UPSC CSE about two years ago.

Campus facilities: The SNTCSSC is a fully Wi-Fi-enabled campus with smart boards in the classrooms. Lectures are delivered with audio-visual aids for interactive sessions, and each classroom has a computer to enable the faculty to get quick access to digital study material. Students and faculty can avail of reference and reading material at the Centre's library with its good collection of books and periodicals specifically focused on the civil service exams. There is also provision for free hostel accommodation to deserving boys and girls on a selective basis.

Study material: The study material that will be provided to students will be in English. SNTCSSC may soon start providing study material in Bengali to aid students in writing the UPSC exam in Bengali.

SNTCSSC Courses and Fees

The main course offered at SNTCSSC, Kolkata is the UPSC CSE Composite Course that is conducted at the campus for 10 months. The coaching modules cover preparations for the UPSC Prelims as well as Mains and include mock tests. These tests have the same format as it is for the UPSC CSE, that is, Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) format for the Prelims, and Long Answer Type Questions for the Mains. For the upcoming batch, the composite course will be offered in collaboration with two well-known institutes - the Shankar IAS Academy (SIA) and the Khan Study Group (KSG).

There are also UPSC CSE Optional Classes that are conducted by IAS officers/faculty from reputed State Universities and their affiliated colleges, and subject-matter experts. Initially, these have introductory sessions before the Prelims exams, with more advanced sessions after the UPSC CSE Prelims are over. Guidance is given on specific subjects, including public administration, political science and international relations, history, geography, law, economics, English literature, sociology, etc (refer to the section on FAQs on the official website to know the full list of subjects).

Admission is given for the crash course on a first-come-first-served basis. You have the option to take up the Prelims Crash Course and the Mock Test Series separately rather than taking them up as an integrated course. Crash Courses for Prelims may be scheduled in online mode.

Then there is the UPSC CSE Mains Guidance Program (MGP) for which the Shankar IAS Academy and the Khan Study Group offer support to help you prepare for the General Studies Paper of the UPSC CSE Mains exam. A series of mock tests with answer writing sessions are conducted by the SNTCSSC team. If you qualify for the UPSC CSE Mains exam, you will also get intensive training to prepare for the UPSC CSE personal interviews that are conducted for selection to the Civil Services.
