IIST M.Tech. and Master of Science Admissions for Sponsored Candidates 2024-2025
Are you a Central Govt. employee keen to pursue a postgraduate program at the prestigious IIST in Kerala? This article provides the opportunity for sponsored candidates who are employees in the Central Govt. to pursue an M.Tech. or a Master of Science at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The list of programs, as well as details of the eligibility criteria, the program fee structure, and the online application process have been provided.
The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, which is an autonomous Deemed to be University under the aegis of the Department of Space, Govt. of India has issued the admission notification for M.Tech. and Master of Science programs (Sponsored) for the academic year 2024-25 for all Central Govt. employees. Only citizens of India are eligible to apply.
You can indicate your order of preference for the PG program at the time of submitting the online application, in case you wish to apply for more than one program. However, you can apply for only two preferences in or across the departments. You will not only be academically studying through the course but will also be required to assist the Department in its academic activities as and when required.About the Courses
IIST is offering the following postgraduate programs for sponsored candidates for the upcoming academic session-
One is a 2-year full-time postgraduate program for which you must avail of study leave for 24 months to pursue and complete the program with a campus residential stay at IIST.
Secondly, there are postgraduate programs that lead to Ph.D. programs. That is, you can pursue a Ph.D. program if you score a CGPA of 7.00 and above throughout the semesters of the PG program. You must complete the required coursework for the Ph.D. program during the second-year project period. As a sponsored employee, you need to avail 24-months leave.
Departments and Programs
The Department of Aerospace Engineering offers M.Tech. programs in (i) Thermal and Propulsion; (ii) Aerodynamics and Flight Mechanics; (iii) Structures and Design; and (iv) Manufacturing Technology (this program is subject to approval by AICTE).
The Department of Avionics offers M.Tech. programs in (i) RF and Microwave Engineering; (ii) Digital Signal Processing; (iii) VLSI and Microsystems; (iv) Control Systems; and (v) Power Electronics.
The Department of Mathematics offers an M.Tech. program in Machine Learning and Computing.
The Department of Chemistry offers an M.Tech. program in Materials Science and Technology.
The Department of Physics is offering an M.Tech. in (i) Optical Engineering, and (ii) Quantum Technology.
The Department of Earth and Space Sciences offers an M.Tech. in (i) Earth System Science; and (ii) Geoinformatics. The Department also offers a Master of Science in Astronomy and Astrophysics.2024 IIST Programs Fee Structure

Age criterion: You should not be over 45 years as on 27th March 2024. The maximum age for women is 50 years.
Educational Qualification: For General & OBC category candidates- a B.E./B.Tech./Master of Science or an equivalent degree with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA 6.50 out of 10.
For SC/ST& PD category candidates- B.E./B.Tech./Master of Science or an equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks or CGPA 6.00 out of 10 for SC/ST& PD category.
In addition to the above qualifications, if you have a B.E or a B.Tech. or a Master's degree in any area, you can apply to a PG program provided you have at least 3 years of work experience in that specific area. You will need to upload a note of not more than three pages maximum about your work experience, with a hard copy of the same to be sent through the proper channel along with the application.Application procedure
You have to first register as a new user with your name, email ID and mobile number, and put in a password at the IIST Admissions portal.
On completing the user registration step, you will receive a registration number. You have to use this registration number along with the password, to complete the further processes, namely, the steps for (i) Profile Registration and (ii) Branch Registration. Next, pay the registration fee of Rs. 700/- online (this fee is not refundable). The final step in the online application process is to upload the 'No Objection Certificate (NOC)'.
You can edit the information in the application if you wish, but only before the submission of branch registration. Once you have submitted the branch registration, you will not be able to make any changes.
On completing all the required steps, you can click on 'Download Application'. This will take you to the page where you can log in with the IIST Registration Number and password and complete the application process.
Post-application process: If you are shortlisted for the M.Tech./Master of Science program, then you will be required to appear for a test and/or an interview that will likely be conducted through video conference mode. The rank list/wait list will be published on the IIST website and candidates will be informed through email.
What you have to do after selection for admission: Once the rank list/short list of candidates is published, and your name appears on it, you need to log in with your login ID and password and pay the seat-acceptance fee (more details below) through e-pay to confirm the seat.
If you are offered admission, the filled-in online application form has to be submitted through the proper channel at the time of reporting at IIST, otherwise your candidature may be cancelled. Also, once the provisional admission list is published, you must remit the seat acceptance fee of Rs. 14,200/- through e-pay mode within the stipulated date. On making this payment, you must submit an undertaking in the prescribed form (this will be put up on the website on the declaration of the results), stating that you will not withdraw the admission. If you do make the decision to withdraw from the program, then the seat acceptance fee will not be refunded.
Important note: IIST will give regular updates on the allotment of seats for admission every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5 p.m. in case there are vacancies. In case you are on the allotment list, you must remit the stipulated fees on or before the subsequent Wednesday, Friday and Monday by 11 a.m. to confirm your candidature to the program and branch allotted. Hence, you must regularly check the IIST website for updates and changes, if any, in the schedule for the allotment of seats.Important dates
The online submission of applications is ongoing and the closing date to submit the application is 27th March 2024 at 11.59 p.m.
The last date for submission of the No Objection Certificate (NOC) is 3rd April 2024 at 11.59 p.m.
The list of shortlisted candidates for the online Interview will be displayed on the website on 4th April 2024.
The online interview will be conducted on 8th and 9th April 2024.
The list of provisionally selected candidates will be displayed on the website on 11th April 2024.
The fee payment by the First-Allotment candidates should be done on 12th April 2024.
The candidates selected for admission must report to IIST on 27th July 2024.
The classes for the M.Tech./Master of Science programs will begin on 29th July 2024.
