Significant things to know before applying

The Selection Committee of RDCFA will give preference to applicants who convey their keenness to become professional artists and who will prioritize practicing their art, be it dance, music, or visual arts. All are 4-year programs, with the first year a probationary year, and you must complete the entire course in four years to earn the diploma.

About Fees: The tuition fees are payable in three terms, and new students must pay the tuition fee of the respective diploma course on selection. It is advisable to confirm what is covered by the tuition fee, as the fees for books will be separate, and inquire about hostel fees as well. There may be additional fees for field trips and other expenses.

About Scholarships: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India has a Central Sector scheme of Top Class Scholarships, wherein three first-year Scheduled Caste (SC) students, and 30 first-year OBC/EBC, and DNT students are extended to RDCFA. About Admission for International Students: Foreign students are welcome to apply, and should submit their application using the Foreign Students Application Form. At the time of applying, they must submit details of their Visa and passport. They can apply in advance and through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in their own countries but are advised to do so early for their applications to be processed before the course begins. Such candidates must send their application form, school and college certificates, C.V., and a DVD of their work. Note that a foreign student who has a tourist visa and gets selected for the interview must obtain relevant information in his/her respective country about the rules that apply to the transfer of a visa from tourist status to student status. The letter from the Kalakshetra Foundation confirming the selection can be used to obtain a student visa as per his/her country's Visa procedures.

Also, if you have obtained a scholarship for study through ICCR's cultural exchange scheme, then you must apply through the Indian Consulate in your country and indicate your preference for Kalakshetra in the application form. It is best to contact the Indian consulate in your country for further details.



Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts Courses

Diploma in Dance: This is a four-year full-time program in Bharatnatyam with the allied subjects of Carnatic, Vocal, and Mridangam and Languages are Tamil, Sanskrit, Telugu, and English. The syllabus includes Dance theory and history, Nattuvangam, Kathakali, Yoga, etc.

Diploma in Carnatic Music: This is a four-year full-time program in which you choose one subject as main and the other as allied subject from the options of Vocal, Violin, Veena, Flute, and Mridangam. Other subjects that are included in the curriculum are Music Theory and Heritage.

Diploma in Visual Arts: This is a four-year full-time program. The Academic Studies part of the course includes Drawing & Painting, while the Indian Art part of the course includes Sculpture. Allied subjects are Ceramics, Graphics (Print-making), Computer, and Photography. The additional subjects of the curriculum cover various aspects of Art History, namely, Indian Art History, Old World Art History, Western Art History, and Contemporary (Indian & Western Art History).



Eligibility requirements

Age criterion: The minimum age requirement for Indians is 18 years, and you should not be over 25 years of age as of 1st July 2024. For Foreigners/NRIs, the age criterion is as per the decision of the Selection Committee.

Educational Qualifications: You should have passed the Higher Secondary exam (Class 12) or its equivalent. Foreigners/NRI applicants should have an academic qualification which is equivalent to the 12th standard. If you are appearing for the Class 12 exam in April/May 2024, then also you are eligible to apply for admission.

Application procedure

Applications should be submitted online at Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts admissions portal, and you have to pay the application fee of Rs. 500/- online as well.

The application form should be filled out in capital letters only. Ensure that you confirm that the email address, phone number and other submitted details are correct before final submission.

Important note: The name and date of birth should be the same as on the Class 10 mark sheet.



Post-application: If you are shortlisted for the diploma program, you have to appear for an interview, the date and time of which will be conveyed to you. The interview is mandatory for both Indian applicants and foreign applicants. There will likely be an aptitude test as well.

The last date to apply is 31st March 2024.
