Overview
The Centre for Distance and Online Education of the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), Bangalore University in Bangaluru (BUB) offers an undergraduate program in Commerce and multiple postgraduate programs in Commerce, Science, and Arts streams in online mode that offers both students and working individuals an opportunity to pursue quality education. The undergraduate program is over six semesters (three years) while all the postgraduate programs are over four semesters (two years). However, there is flexibility in the number of years within which you are permitted to complete the program.

Foreign students are also welcome to apply but are advised to contact the admission officials to know details of their academic eligibility and any specific application processes to be completed to be eligible to pursue these online courses.
Before we get into details of the programs, to dispel the first doubt in your mind about whether or not these online courses are recognized by UGC, note that all are UGC-entitled courses (refer- https://deb.ugc.ac.in/pdf/onlinelist23243.pdf). Bangalore University Online Programs Features
The Mode: The UG and PG courses are accessed through an efficient online Learning Management System (LMS) that forms the core of delivering lectures as well as distribution of study materials and academic support. You can attend the online classes thrice a week, from Friday to Sunday, and in case you miss any of the lectures, you can access the recorded sessions of the lectures. Repeat access to course materials is a huge plus point!
The Teachers: The faculties who teach you are from reputed educational institutions with an excellent academic track record and relevant experience. Some sessions may be conducted by industry experts having the expertise and experience associated with the subject matter.
The Assessment: You have to appear for the exams online to gauge your understanding of the subject. These exams will be varied in their format, such as Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), descriptive-type questions, and case studies.
The Fee: There is an application fee of Rs. 1000/- for enrolling in an online program. The course fee varies (refer to details below).
BUB Online Courses – Curriculum, Eligibility, Fees
Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.)
The B.Com. (General) online course will be delivered in English only. The course will give you an insight into the major conceptual and theoretical aspects of commerce, encompassing the spectrum of business studies. You will thus learn not just about the economic and financial parts of it, but also marketing strategies, management, and business law. You will also develop skills in critically analyzing problems and solving them efficiently. With the goal to work competently in a professional corporate set-up or in the academic sector or a government organization, communication skills and teamwork abilities will also be fine-tuned.
Course duration: The B.Com. program is a 3-year online course that you can complete within a maximum of 6 years.
Eligibility: You should have passed the 2-year pre-university exam in the stream of Arts/Commerce/Science (including Supplementary exam) conducted by the Pre-University Board in Karnataka State (10+2 Pattern) or an equivalent exam with Commerce and Accountancy as optional subjects. (refer to the official prospectus to know other acceptable educational qualifications.)
Course fee: Rs. 15,500/- per year. Master of Commerce (M.Com.)
The M.Com. (General) online course will be delivered in English only. The course is an advanced study of finance that will combine theoretical lessons with real-world applications. You will get a good understanding of current business practices and learn quantitative techniques to gather and critically analyze data. As it is in the B.Com. course, you will enhance your communication skills as well.
Course duration: The M.Com. program is a 2-year online course that you can complete within a maximum of 4 years.
Eligibility: You should be a Graduate with a B.Com. or a BBM Degree of Bangalore University or any other University which is recognized as equivalent, with a minimum of 50% of the aggregate marks in commerce subjects in all the Degree course exams or an equivalent University-acceptable exam.
Course Fee: Rs. 21,800/- per year.Master of Arts – Economics
The Master of Arts (Economics) online course will be delivered in English and Kannada. The course covers theoretical and practical aspects, wherein you study economic principles as well as learn about their practical applications to public policies. You will study quantitative analysis and economic modeling techniques to help you to conduct research studies in the field.
Course duration: The Master of Arts - Economics program is a 2-year online course that you can complete within a maximum of 4 years.
Eligibility: You should have passed the B.A. Degree exam of any University or an equivalent-recognised one with a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate of all the optional subjects and 50% of the marks in the concerned relevant – optional (cognate) subject.

Master of Arts - Political Science
The Master of Arts (Pol. Science) online course will be delivered in English and Kannada. The course focuses on political studies, including an analysis of policies and governance. You will learn to analyze political scenarios and make strategic decisions after evaluating public policies through research methodologies.
Course duration: The Master of Arts – Political Science program is a 2-year online course that you can complete within a maximum of 4 years.
Eligibility: You should have passed the B.A. Degree exam of any University or an equivalent-recognised one with a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate of all the optional subjects and 50% of the marks in the concerned relevant – optional (cognate) subject. If you are a Graduate who has studied public administration at the degree level and secured 50% marks or are a Graduate in law (B.A. BL/B.A. L.L.B) who has studied Political Science during the first three years of the course, then you are eligible to apply for the Master of Arts (Pol. Science) course.
Course Fee: Rs. 17,800/- per year.Master of Arts – History
The course will be delivered in English and Kannada. The curriculum takes you through different historical eras' events and civilizations, and you will approach historical studies from an analytical point of view.
Course duration: The Master of Arts -History program is a 2-year online course that you can complete within a maximum of 4 years.
Eligibility: You should have passed a B.A. Degree exam of any University recognised as equivalent with a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate of all the optional subjects and a minimum of 50% of the marks in the concerned relevant – optional (cognate) subject.
Course Fee: Rs. 17,800/- per year.Master of Arts – Sociology
The course will be delivered in English and Kannada. The curriculum provides a good knowledge of sociological concepts and theories and develops skills for analyzing social issues.
Course duration: The Master of Arts - Sociology program is a 2-year online course that you can complete within a maximum of 4 years.
Eligibility: You should have passed a B.A. Degree exam of any University recognised as equivalent with a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate of all the optional subjects and a minimum of 50% of the marks in the concerned relevant – optional (cognate) subject.
Course Fee: Rs. 17,800/- per year.Master of Arts – English
The course curriculum covers English language and literature and includes literary movements, linguistics, cultural studies, and rhetoric. You will develop the skills and abilities to write academic papers, work on research projects, make an analysis of literary works, etc.
Course duration: The Master of Arts – English program is a 2-year course that you can complete within a maximum of 4 years.
Eligibility: You should have cleared a 3-year B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. Degree exam with English as a Language at the Degree level, and secured a minimum of 50% marks in the language/subject. Graduates of any University who have a PG Diploma in English are also eligible to apply.
Course Fee: Rs. 17,800/- per year.Master of Arts – Hindi
The course curriculum covers the finer nuances of Hindi language and an in-depth study of Hindi literature. You will gain lingual expertise and develop fluency in communicating in the language as well, perhaps taking up research in the field once you complete the postgraduate course.
Course duration: The Master in Arts - Hindi program is a 2-year online course that you can complete within a maximum of 4 years.
Eligibility: You should have cleared a 3-year B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. Degree exam with Hindi as a language under Part-I or Part–II, and secured a minimum of 50% marks. Graduates with a degree from any University recognised as equivalent, with Hindi as an Optional or Major subject can also apply, and also those who have passed the Rashtrabhasha Vidwan or Rashtrabhasha Prakash exam of the Karnataka Hindi Prachara Samithi, Bangalore or the Hindi Ratna exam of the Mysore Hindi Prachara Parishat, Bangalore.
Course Fee: Rs. 17,800/- per year.Master of Arts – Kannada
The course curriculum will provide a good understanding of Kannada language and literature, including the historical and cultural context of Kannada.
Course duration: The Master of Arts - Kannada program is a 2-year online course that you can complete within a maximum of 4 years.
Eligibility: You should have passed a B.A. Degree exam with a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate of all the optional subjects and 50% of the marks in the concerned relevant – optional (cognate) subject or a B.A/B.Sc./B.Com. exam with a minimum of 55% of marks in the languages concerned under part – I (two years). Graduates with a Post-Pre-University Diploma in Kannada from any University, and those who have cleared the Kannada Pandit exam conducted by the Govt. of Karnataka or the Kannada Ratna exam conducted by the Kannada Sahithya Parishath Bengaluru can also apply.
Course Fee: Rs. 17,800/- per year.Master of Science – Mathematics
The Master of Science (Maths) online course will be delivered in English only. Through this course you will explore mathematics from a theoretical and practical point of view. Various techniques to solve problems will be explained as well.
Course duration: The Master of Science - Maths program is a 2-year course that you can complete within a maximum of 4 years.
Eligibility: You should have a Bachelor's degree in Science (B.Sc.) from Bangalore University or any other University recognized as equivalent with a minimum of 40% of marks in the aggregate of all the optional (major) subjects with a minimum of 50% of marks in Maths.
Course Fee: Rs. 42,800/- per year.Application procedure

First, put in an email ID (this will be your username) and create a password for the registration process. Then you can proceed to fill in the personal details and course details. The following documents should be scanned (they should be scanned as coloured documents) and kept ready to upload during the online application procedure-
Note- You should scan the original documents so that there is clarity. If you scan photocopies of the documents, it is possible that they may not be clear. Ensure, too, that all the details you are entering in the online application, both personal and academic details, match the details in the documents you upload. This will ensure a smooth admission process and not create any delays.
The fees can be paid online either with a debit card or credit card or through Net Banking.
Post-application: Once the Directorate receives the application and verifies the documents, you will receive an email about the further procedures for admission and course fee payment. Footnote- The admissions for the upcoming academic year are ongoing, and you can submit your online application by 31st March 2024.
