A well prepared, well presented, exhaustive article on diploma course in Dramatics at the prestigious institution - National School of Drama, Delhi.

There are many students who are not very good in academics and do not have interest in academic studies but have inclination and liking for one or more art forms like music, theatre, dance, etc. These students can do well in these areas if they get an opportunity for that. For those who have passed their UG course and have such an aptitude for the above said art streams, this is a great opportunity. Though number of seats are less but still it is something worth that the deserving students should try.

The syllabus is very elaborate and well structured. I do not see any difficulty for the student to go ahead with this curriculum smoothly.

While going through the article I found that it is mentioned - 'A recommendation letter from at least one theatre expert is mandatory'. What I understand from this is that the candidate should get a certificate of participation from the office bearer of any drama club or local drama association or some drama training center. I do not know whether this interpretation is correct or not because the word 'expert' is very general and can create some confusion in the minds of a candidate. The author of the article might give her view on this.

Yes, indeed, as Umesh commented, the word 'expert' is a broad one. I think when enrolling for the course you can get recommendation letters from not just an eminent actor or director of plays. Perhaps a recommendation letter from someone you assisted on the set design or with the costumes may also be accepted since the curriculum of NSD's course in Dramatic Arts includes design.

Some suggestions-
1. Enrolling in the Drama Club at college would be a plus point since you can then get a recommendation letter from the faculty associated with the club. In fact, if the club's play of which you were a part won an award or was commended at an intercollegiate competition, you could mention that in your application.
2. If you have attended any workshop associated with a theatre group and participated in the activities that were part of the workshop, such as a critical analysis of a play, putting up a skit, etc then you could get a recommendation letter from the person who organized it (in addition to the certificate for attending the workshop).
3. Then there are NGOs which conduct street plays so if you have been part of any, that may help, too.

It would be best to send a query by email to admission@nsd.gov.in for clarification about the recommendation letter.
