MPH Program Features

The Master of Public Health (MPH) program is a two-year full-time degree program and the academic session of 2024-2026 will start in October 2024. Through this program, you will gain rich knowledge and competency in health management with career prospects in the public and private sectors. The degree is awarded by both, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (Johns Hopkins BSPH), USA and IIHMR University, India.



Curriculum: The curriculum content will be designed by Johns Hopkins BSPH faculty and IIHMR faculty to ensure that the core courses are adapted to the health-associated scenarios in India, with Indian case studies and examples.

The core areas of the MPH in the following core are-

  3. Environmental Health Sciences

  5. Health Management and Functional Management

  6. Social and Behavioral Sciences

Faculty: You will be taught by IIHMR faculty in person at the IIHMR campus in Jaipur, and attend online courses taught by the faculty of Johns Hopkins BSPH. Additionally, you will attend one course at the Johns Hopkins campus in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

MPH Program Fee: The total tuition fee is US Dollar 22,000 (to be remitted to JHU USD12,000, and IIHMR USD10,000 or INR equivalent). This fee includes the cost of all tuition expenses and course materials related to the program. The fee payment structure is shown in the Table below-

Benefits: You will be eligible to receive scholarships to support the MPH program. This support is of two levels. One is an Admission-cum-Academic Excellence Scholarship of USD 1200 that will be awarded based on academic merit in a Bachelor's degree in the form of a tuition fee waiver. The second is a Travel Course Work Scholarship to attend the summer institute for 10 to 15 days at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA.

To be eligible for the scholarships, you need to fulfill the following criteria-
Admission cum Academic Excellence Scholarships-
For MBBS graduates: You should have obtained 55% or above aggregate marks in the overall MBBS program, cleared the pre-screening as well as the selection round from JHSPH, and enrolled in the IIHMR-JHU MPH program in the academic year when the scholarship is announced.

For non-MBBS graduates (five scholarships): You should have obtained 70% or above aggregate marks in the primary bachelor's degree and also have rich public health experience.



Important Note: To avail of scholarships, you must register on the Schools of Public Health Application Service (SOPHAS) portal and complete the application by 30th June 2024. The scholarship will be awarded based on the final review and selection of the candidate for the Johns Hopkins BSPH – IIHMRU MPH Program. The scholarship will be in the form of a tuition fee waiver, and this waiver will be given when you deposit the third installment (second installment payable at IIHMR University) of the tuition fee scheduled for April 2025. Check the official admission notification to know the fees for SOPHAS and credentialing.

Travel Scholarship for Coursework-
This scholarship includes international and local travel expenses for the Jaipur-Baltimore-Jaipur trip and lodging arrangements in the USA during the coursework at JHU.

Eligibility Criteria for the MPH Program

Students from India and the South East Asia region should fulfill the following eligibility requirements for admission to the MPH program-
  1. You must be a graduate/postgraduate with a Bachelor's/Master's qualification.

  2. You should have a minimum of 2 years of full-time experience in the field of health. However, the work experience is waived off if you are a graduate with a Ph.D. or M.B.B.S. qualification.

  3. You must have prior college-level mathematics courses, prior college-level biology course and another health-related course.

  4. You must have demonstrated English proficiency to a prior degree, TOEFL or IELTS.

  5. You should have taken prior courses in subjects such as Mathematics and Biology.

  6. You should have demonstrated quantitative and verbal skills through GRE, MCAT, LSAT, or GMAT. However, if you have a degree beyond the bachelor's degree, then you can request a waiver of standardized test scores if you have other sources of quantitative abilities.

MPH program Application Procedure Schedule

You have to first register to apply for the program and submit the filled pre-screening questionnaire at https://applications.iihmr.edu.in/mph-application-form along with an updated CV/resume on or before 31st May 2024 for pre-approval.

You will receive an initiation of the approval status from IIHMR University. In the meantime, you can prepare the relevant documents, including credentialing of transcripts, three letters of recommendation, a personal statement, GRE/GMAT/TOEFL scores as applicable, etc (refer to the official admission notification for full details).



Upon receipt of the documents in the first step and confirmation, you will get a pre-approval email for the application from IIHMR University. This will be followed by another email from Johns Hopkins BSPH with an invitation to complete the online MPH application through SOPHAS (Schools of Public Health Application Service) at- https://sophas.liaisoncas.com/applicant-ux/#/login.

To be considered for admission, you have to submit the completed application along with the application fee of USD 145 by 1st July 2024.

The last date for submission of documents at SOPHAS is 15th July 2024.

The last date for admission is 30th September 2024.

The MPH program will begin at the IIHMR University Jaipur campus in October 2024.

The MPH orientation and Winter/Summer Institute at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA is scheduled for January 2025.
