IIST M.Tech. and Master of Science Programs Admissions through CCMT-2024


Are you keen to be admitted to a postgraduate space science or technology program at IIST? This article provides a departmentwise list of the M.Tech. and M.Sc. programs of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Details of the eligibility criteria, fee structure, and the application process through the Centralized Counselling process (CCMT-2024) have been provided.

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala had earlier this year opened admissions for M.Tech. and Master of Science programs for Sponsored candidates and has now issued the admission notification for the regular programs through the Centralized Counselling process (CCMT-2024). Note that one of the requirements for M.Tech./Master of Science is to assist the Department faculty in academic activities as and when required.

Good to know: As an M.Tech. student with a valid GATE score, you can avail of a scholarship through AICTE, and if you are enrolled for the Master of Science program in Astronomy and Astrophysics, you can avail of an institute scholarship offered by IIST. Secondly, suppose you have a CGPA of 7.00 and above throughout all semesters. In that case, you can register for a Ph.D. program, if a seat is available, and complete the required coursework for the Ph.D. program during the second-year project period.

Employees of ISRO/DoS will be happy to know that on enrolling for the 2-year full-time PG course, they are permitted to take study leave for 24 months to pursue and complete the course (with stay facility) at IIST.

Eligibility requirements

Only Indian citizens can apply for the M.Tech./M.Sc. programs, and it is mandatory to appear for the Centralized Counselling process (CCMT – 2024).

Educational Qualifications: BE/B.Tech. in the relevant discipline. For some courses, an M.Sc. is also accepted (refer to the official brochure for details).

Qualifying Exam Marks: Those who are applying in the General/EWS/OBC-NCL categories should score at least 60% marks (or CGPA 6.5 on a 10-point scale), while those applying in the SC/ST/PwD should score at least 55% marks (or CGPA 6.0 on a 10- point scale) of all semesters/years. It is also essential to have a valid GATE score in the relevant discipline.

Note that if you are completing the qualifying degree program in 2023-24, then you must provide the consolidated mark list/mark lists of all semesters along with the provisional/ Degree certificate on or before 30th September 2024 latest by 1700 hrs. Up to this date and time, admission will be provisional and till the relevant mark sheets and certificates is not submitted, you will not be eligible for a scholarship. If you fail to submit the relevant mark sheets and certificates by the scheduled date, you will be disqualified and will not be eligible to continue further studies at IIST. In case you completed the qualifying degree prior to and for 2023-24, you will have to produce all the certificates, namely, NOC, TC and Conduct/ Character certificate in original, at the time of admission.

IIST PG Fee Structure

Initial fees: The non-fundable one-time admission fee is Rs. 1500/-. You also have to pay a one-time Caution Deposit (this is refundable) of Rs.5000/.

Course fees: The Tuition fee per semester is Rs.35,000/-. Other Fees per semester is a total of Rs.5450/-.
Hostel accommodation: The hostel fee/semester is Rs.8750/- (Mess fees may be separate).
Additional fees- Check the prospectus to know other fees, such as for the semester exam, thesis, convocation, etc.

How to apply

You have to register at the Centralized Counselling process (CCMT-2024) portal and appear for the entrance test.

Important dates

The closing date for CCMT-2024 online registration and payment of the fee is 7th June 2024 up to 5.30 p.m.
On selection for admission to the M.Tech./M.Sc. course, you have to report at the Institute on 26th July 2024 (this is a tentative date).



Admission process: At the time of reporting for admission, you have to bring the originals of all relevant documents and certificates, such as SSLC/SSC, Pre-degree/Plus-2 or equivalent, B.E./B.Tech./Master of Science, or equivalent degree certificate and mark sheets (consolidated list of marks or mark sheets of all the semesters), the GATE Score card, OBC/EWS/SC/ST certificates as applicable, medical fitness certificate, etc. (refer to the official notification to know the complete list of documents).
