NLU CLAT 2025 – Schedule, Law Programs, Eligibility, Application Process


Are you keen to apply for admission to an LL.B. or LL.M. program at a prestigious law university in India? This article provides complete information on the Common Law Admission Test-2025, which is the mandatory entrance test to facilitate admission to any of the 24 National Law Universities in India. Details of the eligibility requirements, the application fee for CLAT 2025, the syllabus of CLAT, and the online application process are provided.

The Consortium of National Law Universities, which currently has 24 National Law Universities as its members, has announced the schedule for the all-India Common Law Admission Test-2025. Known as CLAT, this exam is for admission to the 5-year integrated LL.B. undergraduate program and LL.M. postgraduate programs of the participating NLUs.

Good to know: The CLAT 2025 score is accepted at affiliate universities for admission to their law programs of the academic year 2024-25 as well as by organizations for recruitment processes.



Integrated LL.B. UG Program Eligibility Criteria

For this 5-year program, there is no upper age limit. The educational qualification requirement is to pass the 10+2 or an equivalent exam with at least 45% marks or its equivalent grade if you are applying in the General, OBC, NRI, PIO or OCI categories. The requirement is a minimum of 40% marks or equivalent for candidates applying in the SC, ST or PWD categories.

You are also eligible to appear for CLAT 2025 if you are appearing for the qualifying exam in March/April 2025, but you must produce evidence of passing the qualifying exam at the time of admission, otherwise, you will not be eligible for admission.

LL.M. PG Program Eligibility Criteria

For this 2-year program, there is no upper age limit. The educational qualification requirement is to have cleared the LL.B. Degree or an equivalent exam with a minimum of 50% marks or its equivalent grade if you are applying in the General, OBC, NRI, PIO or OCI categories. The requirement is a minimum of 45% marks or equivalent for candidates applying in the SC, ST or PWD categories.

You are also eligible to appear for CLAT 2025 if you are appearing for the qualifying LL.B. Degree or equivalent exam in April/May 2025.

Application process for CLAT 2025

You have to first register with a personal mobile number and e-mail ID in online mode at the CLAT 2025 official website, and then submit your application on the same portal.

Go through the instructions given on the official website before you start the online application process. It is also advisable to read the information brochure which is available on the official CLAT website and the individual NLU websites.

It is important to note that your name and the names of your parents must be spelt correctly in the application, exactly matching the names in the certificates/mark sheets/ID proof, otherwise, your application is liable to be rejected.



The following documents should be scanned and kept ready for uploading during the online application process (all documents and certificates should be in PDF format only)-
  1. A recent passport-size photo (this should be a front-facing photo on a plain background and need not be attested while submitting the online application form).

  2. Your signature (this need not be attested while submitting the Online Application Form).

  3. The relevant category certificate if you are applying under the SC or ST or OBC category.

  4. The relevant certificate issued by a competent authority if you are applying in the PwD category.

  5. The relevant certificate issued by a competent authority if you are applying in the BPL category.

Note: You will have to produce the original certificates/documents issued by the competent authority at the time of admission to the allotted University.

CLAT 2025 Application Fee: The non-refundable application fee should be paid online. For General/OBC/NRI candidates the application fee is Rs.4000/-. For SC, ST, and BPL category candidates, the application fee is Rs.3,500/-.

CLAT 2025 Format

UG CLAT 2025: The 2-hour paper has 120 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of one mark each, and 0.25 negative marks will be awarded for each incorrect answer. There are five sections for this exam- (i) English Language; (ii) Current Affairs, including General Knowledge; (iii) Legal Reasoning; (iv) Logical Reasoning, and (v) Quantitative Techniques.

PG CLAT 2025: The 2-hour paper has 120 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of one mark each, and 0.25 negative marks will be awarded for each incorrect answer. The questions will be related to (i) Constitutional Law, and (ii) Other areas of Law, such as Jurisprudence, Torts, Family Law, Property Law, Criminal Law, etc.

You can obtain the question papers of previous CLAT exams by paying a fee of Rs.500/- (note that this is not included in the CLAT 2025 application fee).



Important dates

Registration and applications for CLAT 2025 open on 15th July 2024.
The last date for the receipt of applications is 15th October 2024 at 11.59 p.m.
CLAT 2025 Admit Card availability: The dates when the Admit Card will be available for download will be announced on the official website later.

CLAT 2025 Date and Time: It is scheduled for 1st December 2024. Time (may be revised if necessary): 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; for PwD category candidates – 2 p.m. to 4.40 p.m.

Counselling for admission to the NLUs will be scheduled in December 2024/January 2025.
