2024 AWES Online Screening Entrance Test for Army Public Schools Teachers Vacancies

The Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) has announced the schedule for the Online Screening Test (OST) for possible upcoming primary, secondary, and higher secondary school teaching vacancies at the over 100 campuses of Army Public Schools (APS) across India.

Important to know: While those who are OST-qualified will be given preference, the OST is no longer mandatory for appearing for the interview and evaluating teaching skills and computer proficiency. However, once selected for the teaching post, a non-OST-qualified candidate must pass the OST. If appointed to a regular post, the candidate must pass the OST within two years of the appointment date with a minimum overall score of 50 % (100 marks). In the case of an appointment to a fixed-term post, the candidate must pass the OST within one year of the appointment date with a minimum overall score of 40 % (80 marks). Also, CTET/TET is not mandatory for appearing for the OST, but before the appointment to a PRT or TGT post, CTET/TET should have been cleared. Candidates without this qualification may be considered for appointment to vacancies which are on an Adhoc basis provided they fulfill all other eligibility requirements for the specific post.
Brief Synopsis: An OST Score Card is issued to candidates who successfully qualify for the Online Screening Test (OST) and is valid for life. The Score Card should be produced when applying for an APS teaching position. The vacancies in the CBSE-affiliated schools are for Primary Teachers (PRTs), Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs), and Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) to teach the CBSE curriculum and appointments are on a regular/fixed-term basis. An appointment for a regular teaching post is transferable. A PRT teacher can teach in Classes 1 to V, a TGT in Classes VI to X, and a PGT in Classes IX to XII. A candidate is permitted to apply for any one of these posts in all subjects if the required criteria for each specific subject are fulfilled. 2024 AWES OST Registration Eligibility Criteria
Age Criterion as per Experience
For Army Spouses: Fresh candidates with no teaching experience should be below 40 years of age. Candidates with a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience should be below 45 years of age, those with a minimum of 7 years of teaching experience below 50 years, and those with a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience below 57 years. Note that the experience required should be in the appropriate teaching category.
For other candidates: Fresh candidates with no teaching experience should be below 40 years of age. In case the candidate has teaching experience of at least five years within the last 10 years before applying, then the age criterion should be below 57 years. Note that the experience required should be in the appropriate teaching category.Academic Qualifications
For Primary Teachers (PRTs): Graduate with a Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 50% marks in the concerned subject/combination of subjects and in the aggregate, as well as a B.El.Ed. or a 2-year D.El.Ed. qualification.
In the case of a vacancy for PRT Physical Education, the candidate should have a Bachelor's degree with Physical Education as an elective subject with 50% marks, and a Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) of at least one year duration (or its equivalent) from any National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE)-recognized institution.
You can also apply if you have a B.Ed. or an Integrated B.Ed. on fulfilling the condition of a 6-month PDPET/Bridge course from an NCTE-recognized institute as and when NCTE approves any institute to conduct the said course within two years of recruitment as PRT or commencement of the course, whichever is later.
Other requirements: The candidate should pass the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET)/Teachers Eligibility Test (TET), conducted by CBSE/a State Govt., have English proficiency, and computer knowledge is desirable.
For Trained Graduate Teachers posts (TGTs): The candidate should have completed a 4-year Integrated Degree Course of the Regional College of Education of NCERT in the concerned subject with at least 50 % marks in aggregate. Also acceptable is a Post-Graduation qualification with a minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade and a 3-year integrated B.Ed./M.Ed.; or a Bachelor's Degree with at least 50 % marks in the concerned subjects/combination of subjects and in aggregate in one of these (as applicable to the post)- Sanskrit, Hindi, English, Social Studies, Maths, Science, Computer Science (refer to the official notification for details).
Additionally, the candidate must have a B.Ed. or equivalent degree from a recognized University, passed CTET/TET conducted by CBSE/a State Govt., English proficiency, and computer knowledge are desirable.
For Post Graduate Teachers posts (PGTs): The candidate should have completed a 2-year Integrated Postgraduate M.A. or M.Sc. course (as applicable for the teaching subject) of the Regional College of Education of NCERT in the concerned subject with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
In the case of a post for PGT (Physical Education), the candidate should have a Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) or Bachelor of Physical Education (BPE) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Health and Physical Education and a Degree in Sports with at least 55 % marks, and an M.P.Ed. of at least 2-years duration from any NCTE-recognized Institution. At the Graduation level, also accepted is at least 50 % marks in the B.P.Ed. degree/B.P.Ed. (Integrated) 4 years professional degree; or B.P.Ed. with at least 55 % marks or B.P.E Course (or its equivalent) of 3 years duration with at least 50% marks.
Also acceptable is a Postgraduation with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade and a 3-year integrated B.Ed./M.Ed.; or a Master's Degree from a recognized University with at least 50% marks in aggregate in any of these subjects (as applicable to the post)- Hindi, English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Accountancy, Business Studies, History, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, Home Science, Fine Arts, Biotechnology, Computer Science, and Informatics Practices.
Other requirements: A B.Ed. or equivalent degree from a recognized university, but a B.Ed. is not mandatory for a PGT (Computer Science) post. Proficiency in teaching in Hindi and English is also required, and it is desirable to have computer knowledge.AWES OST November 2024 Registration Process
You have to register with a valid email ID and a mobile number for the Online Screening Test (OST) on https://awes.register.smartexams.in/home and not on any other website. Ensure that the email ID and mobile number remain the same throughout, till all the OST-related processes are completed, as these will be used for communications related to the test and other necessary information. Also, all names (name of the applicant and parents) must be the same as appearing in the certificates/mark sheets/ID proof, because if there is any difference, the application is likely to be rejected.
The required OST exam fee of Rs. 385/- (the fee is the same for all candidates) should be paid online with UPI or with a Debit Card or a Credit Card or through Net Banking.
To register and create a profile, the Aadhaar Card is mandatory, so keep this ready before starting the registration process. Then upload the requisite documents, namely, a recent passport-size photo, signature, and proof of date of birth (either the (10th mark sheet or the Birth Certificate) and any other required documents, and select the city for the test centre (up to three centres can be selected). The list of 41 test centres is mentioned in the official notification.
Once you get the confirmation on the screen that you have successfully completed the registration process, note down the application number as you will require it as a reference for future communications, and keep a printout of the application submitted.AWES OST 2024 Exam Format
For all potential vacancies, that is PRTs, TGTs, and PGTs, the OST is an online computer-based test with 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with a time limit of 3 hours. There are three sections- Section A has questions related to basic general knowledge and current affairs, Section B with questions on pedagogy, curriculum, and education policy matters, and Section C with questions to gauge academic proficiency.
A correct answer will be awarded one mark, with a negative mark of 1/4 mark deducted for each wrong answer.Important dates
The registration and application portal will be opened on 10th September 2024.
The last date to submit the online registration form and the registration fee is 25th September 2024.
A list of Mock Questions (10 % of the total number of questions paper of each subject as per the blueprint for each subject) will be available in PDF format as a reference guide for the OST from 1st November 2024.
The Admit Card can be downloaded from the website from 12th November 2024 onwards. Ensure that you read the instructions that are issued with the Admit Card.
The Online Screening Test (OST) is scheduled for the 23rd and 24th of November 2024, with the 25th of November kept as a reserved date.
The result of the OST, that is, the final Score Card with the percentile, will be published on the official website on 10th December 2024. The score card will be available on the official website till a scheduled date that will be indicated on the website.
