Best ways to fight with Loneliness

Are you looking for ways to invest your time when you are feeling all lonely? Read this short article to know about the best methods to overcome loneliness.

The Pocket Oxford Dictionary defines lonely as solitary; isolated; dejected by being alone. So when you say that you are lonely, it implies that you do not have anyone for company and that makes you feel low. This is a wrong impression because you are NEVER alone. There are two people always with you – you yourself; and God. You can be your best company and God is always there no matter where you are.

What is it that can make your own self your best company?

* Get lost in the pages of a book Go back to the fairy tales of Enid Blyton and transport yourself into the world of magic, witches and wizards. I still love reading those fascinating stories on the Wishing Tree and the imaginary worlds hidden in the cloud at the top.
* Watch a film. Hire a couple of your favourite comedy movies and enjoy a giggle.
* Listen to music. Put your favourite CD in your deck, hit ‘play’ and dance around the room.
* Make a cup of hot tea or brew a mug of coffee. Relax in you favourite chair and sip it slowly, letting the beverage seep slowly through your system, and feel the energy coursing through your body.
* Go for a walk. Just being outdoors boosts your spirits tremendously.
* Call up a friend. Talking with a friend can brighten up your day instantly.
* Meditate for a while. The quiet around you will help you concentrate on deep breathing exercises; maybe a little yoga too.
* Gossip with your neighbour. Chatting with a neighbour and indulging in a little gossip about the latest happenings will make time fly.
* Chat online with friends.
* Become a member of India Study Channel, participate in the discussion forum. It is as good as a chat room, with ideas and opinions yo-yoing thick and fast between members.
* Above all, get it out of your mind that you are alone. What you think is what you feel. So think positive - that there are plenty of things to do - and tell yourself that you are happy. It will automatically transfer into actual feelings of happiness.

Remember : it is not about fighting loneliness; it is about accepting the fact that you are alone and taking positive steps to enjoying your own company.

An excellent and useful article from Ms. Vandana. The secret key of a healthy and active life after retirement lies with the retiree. It is totally a mind game. He/She has to keep himself/herself busy after retirement. Nowadays many retired people continue working full time/ part-time even if there is no financial requirement as such. This is to remain active. Some retired people do social service or remain involved with RWA activities. In Kolkata, some retired people remain engaged in maintaining and development of public libraries. Some are actively engaged in ‘Swachh Bharat’ mission in their locality.

After retirement, people get the opportunity to write their memoirs, read books, re-establishing contacts with relatives (near and distant). Retired people find time to do regular morning walk and evening walk. They find adequate time to spend with the family-members.

If the retired people get themselves medically checked at regular intervals, they are able to lead a active and healthy life even after 15 years post-retirement. I have seen many such instances.

In this connection, I refer to my article on the same subject.
