Pharmacists are the people behind he making of every medicine, be it painkillers or cancer drugs.
The Work:- Pharmacist deals with drugs and chemicals in the medical profession. They understand the use, composition and effect of drugs. Their work varies according to the education they have and the type of work they do. Each area of pharmacy has different educational and certification requirements, and like wise, each type of pharmacists receives a different salary and has different work conditions.
Broadly speaking, there are following types of pharmacists.
? Retail Pharmacists manage the operation of the pharmacy. They are often known as chemists. Their work includes ordering supplies, book-keeping, inventory control, supervising the sale of prescription and non-prescription drugs, surgical supplies, and other merchandise.
? Hospital Pharmacists are responsible for the procurement, storage and dispensation of various medicines and other medical accessories in a hospital. They also take care of stock control, financial budgeting and account keeping of the stocks.
? Industrial Pharmacists work in industrial settings. Their work range from sales and marketing to production and quality control to clinical research to professional relations opportunities. Often these pharmacists are involved in the development of drug information materials used to educate other pharmacists, physicians and patients. Pharmacists are employed by large pharmaceutical manufacturers, chemical industry, food and drug control organization and hospitals.
Education & skills:-
After 10+2 with physics, chemistry and biology, students are eligible to join Diploma or Degree course in Pharmacy (D. Pharma) is a 2 year course, while Bachelor in Pharmacy (B. Pharma) is of 4 years duration.
D. Pharma makes one eligible for opening a chemist shop after registering with pharmacy council of India.
Admission to the B. Pharma is usually, through state level entrance examinations conducted along with engineering/medical entrance tests. There is no entrance exam for D. Pharma. However the Diploma Students can also be included in Degree course directly in Second Year B. Pharma to join pharmaceutics companies as Executives, one needs higher education ue,, Master in Pharmacy (M. Pharma)

Renumeration:- In a good pharmaceutical company, a qualified pharmacist starts from Rs. 10,000 to 15,0000 a month. Companies with foreign collaborations, pay even higher.
Job Prospects: The demand of a pharmacist is increasing. In addition to population growth, potential technological innovations, pharmaceutical products will likely provide new and more effective drugs in treating illness which may not have been curable before. Growth will result from the increased pharmaceutical needs of a larger elderly population and the greater use of medication.
