Nonulcer dyspepsia is nothing but a combination of various symptoms which doesnt have any systemic cause. They are mostly functional in nature associated with or without any psychological factor. Nonulcer dyspepsia may be idiopathic but there are several theory which derive some factors for its pathogenesis. These includes a psychosocial factor, association of Helicobacter pylori infection and some factors related to stomach and its fuction which include delayed gastric emptying, increased sensitivity to acids, impaired gastric relaxation and decreased acid clearance by stobmach.
All these factors are just a hypothesis in the cause of nonulcer dyspepsia, though it is just a complex of symptoms without associated lesion.Symptoms of nonulcer dyspepsia
As mentioned it is a combination of symptoms which includes fullness of abdomen after meal, bloating , belching, nausea and vomitting, abdominal distension and all leading to anorexia. Sometimes endoscopy is done just to make sure or discarding any ulcerative lesion, otherwise diagnosis fully depends on symptoms. Helicobacter pyroli can be examined to be sure enough for use of antibiotics.
Treatment is generally symptomatic and there is not any specific treatment for it. It is not a dangerous disease but creates enough problem to cause discomfort on day to day life.
