Degrees should be delinked from jobs
This article describes about whether Degrees and education should be delinked from Job profiles and consideration in Interviews. Read to know the views and the advantages and disadvantages of linking or unlinking degrees and qualifications from jobs in interviews.
If you argue for the motion :-
(i) Linking of jobs with degrees has unnecessarily put strain on Indian Universities.Almost every school-going child enrolls into a university in later years, without paying attention to his natural aptitude and inclination.
(ii) Educational standards suffer due to the rat race for admission to University educational institutions.Students pursue studies not for higher learning but to enter a job market which requires the possession of a degree.
(iii) In many cases there is no correlation between the nature of a job and the education acquired because skills required for the job are never taught in the University degree studies.
(iv) Almost all industries are required to train the new recruits which renders years of university education useless. Thus, time and money that were spent on acquiring a degree are wasted.
(v) India is a very poor country and it cannot afford to waste its resources. On an average, the government spends a shade more than Rs.1000/- per student per year during the degree course and very often even after acquiring a post-graduation degree,a student ends up as a cashier in a bank spending the rest of his life counting from 1 to 99.
If you argue against the motion:-
(i) If the minimum requirement of graduation is not available, there will be a tremendous rush in the job market.
(ii) Below average students are automatically filtered in the process of graduation,so that average and above average students are readily identified.
(iii) Degrees provide a stability in decision-making because maturity and effectiveness is possible only when one has put in sufficient time in pursuing an academic career.
(iv) All round development of a person can take place only in an atmosphere of University standards and not when only specialized training is given to a candidate ,thus depriving him of the chance to develop his personality.
(v) Rationality and analytical thinking can be acquired only through devoted studies which is possible only in an University atmosphere.
