Meditation – Good for heart.




Meditation is to meditate, contemplate or concentrate our mind on something spiritual or religious. It is also a way of life which calms and quietens our mind by cleansing it of all negative thoughts. The end result of this mental exercise in unbelievable.

Transcendental meditation is a way of relaxing and refreshing oneself by silently repeating a sacred word or sound. It is believed to be the time tested remedy for may physical and mental sickness.

Maura Paul-Labrador of Cedars-Sinai medical Centre published a study report on the preventive and curative effects of meditation. The effect of meditation was studied on patients with heart disease for 16 weeks. The patients in meditational session (which included group meeting, individual sessions etc.) showed tremendous improvement in blood pressure, glucose and insulin levels. It was found that the functioning of nervous system also stabilized. The changes have been attributed to the de-stressing effect of meditation.

It is concluded that an individual begins responding to stressful sitatuions with lot of mental stamina and physical vigour with a regular practice of meditation.
