Multidimensional approach to control obesity

Obesity is universal problem due to the deposition of excess fat usually in the form of triglycerides in the subcutaneous adipose tissue. This leads to various medical complications including diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, cardio-vascular and neurological disorders apart from the cosmetic point of view. An immediate solution is 'liposuction' produce coupled with the use of laser/ultrasonic/thermal radiation/surfactants.

Alternatively, to reduce the cost and patient convenience due to liposuction procedure, understanding the biochemical pathways and an alternative signaling technique is needed. For this development of biosensors is required which in turn communicate between the organs like pituitary, liver, thyroid and other related glands which are participating in the esterification and deesterification process of the triacylglycerols deposited. However, it involves a large number of hormones, enzymes and proteins involving complex signaling process.

This technique involves the development of bio-chips to interlink all the above mentioned organs and regulate the processes involved such that the initiation of the fat deposition at its early stage be recognized and to counter the biochemical blockage to reinstall the pathways to facilitate the utilization of the fats. Patients who have undergone this modified procedure had the benefit of considerable less loss of blood in the procedure compared to the traditional method. The triglyceride and the fat separated are subjected to various physical, chemical, thermal, electrical variations and the behavior is studied.
