Beans ( Red Canadian Wonder)




INGREDIENTS:

1 cup beans
2 pints water
1 large onion
2 medium tomatoes
3 green whole chillies
1/2 teaspoon chilly powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon dhunia
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ginger/garlic
1/4 cup ghee/oil


Boil the beans till absolutely soft and mushy. Beans must be boiled very slowly and the longer they take to cook the better the gravy results. If more water is required, add a little boiling water at a time. When beans are ready, n a frying pan out chillies, the onions and cook slowly in ghee/oil till soft and pinkish, then cut and add tomatoes and cook till all the moisture has evaporated. Add all the spices and about 1 1/2 tablespoons of water and cook till the masalas have blended thoroughly with the puree tomatoes. Add to the simmering beans and cook slowly till gravy is thick and onions cannot be seen in the gravy. If desired, add cut up dhunia leaves before serving.
