Power Supply For Computer
Dear Friends,
I am going to tell you about the power supply for computer.
A power supply is a device that supplies electrical power to various components of electrical device or computer.
I think the power supply works as heart of the computer system. It supplies required amount of voltage to each and every component of the computer.
If the power supply of the system is affected in terms of over heating , over loading or anything else then the components of computer are also at risk in terms of physical damage.
A computer system needs low DC Voltage for its operation. Initially the power supply for personal computer is designed at accept AC power and convert it into required level of DC voltage.
It is able to shut down the system in case of over loading , short circuiting and over heating.
During shut down it also prevents voltage fluctuations and voltage over shooting for safety of sophisticated parts and components of computer against damages.
The power requirement for a personal computer is not AC but it needs low voltage DC.
A 3.3 or 5 volt DC is required for its chips and 12 volts DC for various motors. So basically a power supply used with personal computers does not supply power rather it converts it from AC to DC.
.......Now I am going to give some.......
1. Linear Mode Power Supplies( LMPS).
2. Switch Mode Power Supplies( SMPS).
Linear Mode Power Supplies are less used with computer.
You will find them on monitors and some external drive cases.
Switch Mode Power Supplies are digital in nature and are mostly used to fluttations and they generate less heat.
As compared to linear power supplies. It is also much lighter and more efficient then Linear Mode Power Supplies but still inear power supplies are used with main frame computer.
