Rajkot ODI records

The strong Indian team crossed the 400 mark for the second time, and this time they did it against the very good Sri Lankan team.

Here we will discuss about the records which were set in the recently played Thriller ODI at Rajkot. Every Indian who watched this match would have enjoyed the match at the maximum and especially the climax, i.e. the final over really made us tensed and in whole the entire match is a full length entertainer.

So let me take a chance to discuss about the various set in the first ODI, between India and Sri Lanka (played at Rajkot on 15th December 2009). This is the summary of the match, India lost the toss and the Lankans elected to bowl first. India scored 414/7 in 50 overs and the Sri Lankans fell short by 3 runs as they finished the tough battle with 411/8 in 50 overs. Now it is time to discuss about the records.

1)India's best score in ODI: This is India's best score in ODI and the previous best being 413/5 against Bermuda in 2007 world cup. India managed to surpass the previous best score in the lat ball of the Indian innings. India has crossed 400 run mark twice.

2)Fifth best score in ODI:

This is the fifth best score in ODI history. The previous best score includes

i) 443 by Sri Lanka
ii) 438 by South Africa
iii) 434 by Australia
iv) 418 by South Africa

3)150 runs partnership: This is something very interesting and according to this record India is the only team to have a partnership of more than one 150 runs for the first two wickets, i.e. Sachin and Sehwag added 153 runs for the opening partnership, followed by the 156 runs partnership between Sehwag and Dhoni. Not only this, this is the only match in history where both the team had more than 150 runs stand for the opening wicket as Tharanga and Dilshan made 188 runs opening stand for Sri Lanka.

4)Second highest score in a single match (adding both teams' score): This is the second highest score, with 825 runs, scored by both the countries; the previous best was 872 runs in the match played between Australia and South Africa.

5)Highest Score for Sehwag: This is the best Individual score for Sehwag (146 from 102 balls), with the previous being 130 runs against New Zealand and this is also the second fastest ODI century for Sehwag, with the previous best being in 60 balls against New Zealand.

6)Dhoni crosses 5000 runs: Dhoni crossed the 5000 run mark in this ODI and he reached 5000 runs when his score was 46. He did this record in his 152nd match. He is the 8th Indian to cross 5000 runs and he joins the list of Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, Azharudin, Yuvraj, Sehwag, Ajay Jadeja.

7)Second fastest 50 by a Sri Lankan: Sangakara scored his 50 runs in 24 balls and he is the second fastest Sri Lankan, with Jayasurya being at number one, as he already scored 50 runs in 17 balls.

8) Highest total in India: 414 is the highest total in India

So I hope this information is helpful. Hope Indian team make more record and win many matches.
